Product Description
Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë face a life of hardship. Trapped at home with few opportunities, they share the burden of supporting their father and their troubled brother, but Charlotte sees that writing novels could offer a way out. Acclaimed screenwriter Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax) creates "a bleak and brilliant portrayal" (The Guardian) of the sisters' extraordinary battle for recognition, starring the ensemble cast of Finn Atkins, Charlie Murphy, Adam Nagaitis, Chloe Pirrie, and Jonathan Pryce.

What I disliked: There is an unnecessary graphic sex scene which, in my opinion, adds nothing to the story. It’s for shock value only. I’m upset it’s there because I would have liked to have recommended this movie to younger family members.
What I’m on the fence about: There is use of a symbolic flame placed above the Bronte children’s heads when they’re being creative and developing their genius. When adult Branwell becomes depressed and despondent, the child version of him no longer has the flame above his head and he is rejected by his sisters. I understand the symbolism of the flame but I can’t decide if it’s necessary. It’s almost odd and disruptive to the flow of the entire show.
