Titel is a town and surrounding municipality in Vojvodina, Serbia.

Understand[edit]

Titel has a population of roughly 6,000, and a municipality population around 17,000. Best known for the hill above the town—the dramatic outcropping of a fertile plateau to the north—and the road and rail bridges that cross the nearby Tisa River, Titel is an authentic Serbian town that seldom sees tourists.

Get in[edit]

By car, bus, or boat. The 50 km drive from Novi Sad is pleasant, particularly the section over the plateau. Titel is just 10 km up the Tisa from its confluence with the Danube.

Get around[edit]

Titel's centre, on and around Glavna Ulica east of Zmaj Jovina Ulica, is small enough to navigate on foot. The hill, plateau, and river are all easily explored by foot or bicycle.

The "Tisa" was built during the period of the Titel’s battalion (Šajkaši), formed by the decision of Emperor Maria Theresa of 1763 in the area of the south-eastern Backa (between the Danube and the Tisa). Šajkaši were recruited from the inhabitants of Titel, Lok, Mošorin, Gardinovci, Vilovo, and Žabalj, and later to these towns were added six settlements: Čurug, Gospođinci, Sentivan (Šajkaš), Gornji and Donji Kovilj and Kać. It is located in the very center of Titel, on the main square with fountains and on a pedestrian distance from all Titel's sights and the beach on the Tisa river. As a large-capacity facility, it is suitable for congress tourism and is ready to attend all events with a large number of participants including sports events and athletic preparations, where the use of the sports hall "Anker" provides exceptional opportunities. It is also suitable for business people and transit travelers. Due to its specific construction from the end of the eighteenth century, which is painted by very thick walls, you will not be looking for cooling on the worst days with the help of air conditioners. The sports hall "Anker" is one of the main reasons for visiting a large number of sports clubs and recreational players. It is equipped for all types of sports and meets all requirements for maintaining the basketball, volleyball, handball, and all-martial competitions, and is often used for the preparation of athletes both in summer and winter. As a special experience for all guests, there is an opportunity to use the "Tam-Tat" riverboat with cca 20 places with which it is possible to access all-natural resources of Titel and its surroundings, as well as organize various festivities, presentations, and other events during navigation with an appropriate serving of food and drinks. The boat is available for use from the first spring days to the end of autumn. roughly $20 per person in a double room; breakfast not included. (45.20359,20.30799)
