Tiran Porter replaced Dave Shogren as the bassist in The Doobie Brothers.
Stampede was the final album that would feature Tom Johnston as the lead vocalist before Michael McDonald would be stepping up as lead vocalist and primary songwriter.

This was the first Doobie Brothers album to feature Michael McDonald as the lead vocalist.

Minute By Minute would be the last Doobie Brothers Album to include members Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (lead/rhythm guitars) and John Hartman (drums).
The album spent 87 weeks on the Billboard Hot 200 chart.
In the spring of 1979 Minute by Minute was the best-selling album in the U.S. for five non-consecutive weeks.
Minute by Minute was certified 3 times Platinum by the RIAA.
The song “What a Fool Believes” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1979 and became the band’s biggest hit.
“Minute by Minute” and “Depending on You” were also released as singles and reached the top 30.
Minute by Minute made The Doobie Brothers one of the big winners at the 22nd Grammy Awards.
The album got the trophy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group
“What a Fool Believes” earned them three Grammys, including Song and Record of the Year.

The Doobie Brothers – Cycles
The name of the album, Cycles, was taken from an unused song written by Tiran Porter who later recorded the song for his 1995 solo album Playing To An Empty House.
Cycles marked the band’s reunion after breaking up in 1982.
Tom Johnston, John Hartman and Michael Hossack returned to the studio lineup for the first time since 1977, 1978 and 1974 respectively.
“One Chain (Don’t Make No Prison)” is a Four Tops cover
“Need a Little Taste of Love” is an Isley Brothers cover
“The Doctor” reached #9 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart.”
After this album, Bobby Lakind (percussion/vocals) retired from the band because of terminal colorectal cancer, which claimed his life in 1992.
