White Feather is the only authorized biography of Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock II, who was recognized as the most successful sniper in the Vietnam War with more than 93 confirmed kills. The book White Feather is written by brothers Roy and Norm Chandler, who publish military shooting publications through Iron Brigade Publishing, a Jacksonville, North Carolina based corporation. As Marine Sniper, a best seller for nine years relayed his heroism in Vietnam, White Feather covers Carlos' entire career and the other details not found in any other title. Written in true "Chandler" format, this volume covers, from beginning to end, the story and tales of a true Marine Corps legend and last American Hero. As far as biographies go, this book will forever immortalize Hathcock, who passed away Feb. 1999.

This book sure fills in the blanks where “Marine Sniper” left off. Gives a lot of personal story of Gunny Hathcock. His battle with multiple sclerosis is inspiring. As a former Marine myself who is also afflicted with this disease I found some nuggets of wisdom in there to help me along.

If you've forgotten what a real man is, this is a great reminder. This is the only authorized autobiography of this man. A Marine's Marine and basic founder of the Marine Sniper unit. Hathcock is a legend and his discipline, dedication, strength and integrity is a rare thing today. For those interested in long distance shooting and the shooting sports in general ... that's how he started out.

This is a tribute biography that covers Gunny Hathcock's entire life. Several of his now legendary missions are covered in detail. This gallant Marine was perhaps the most lethal combat shooter in American military history and yet, he was a gentle, and altogether decent human being. The story of Carlos Hathcock left me with three regrets. I regret that I never met him. I regret that I never served with him on a mission and I regret that he didn't teach me how to shoot. The photo on the very last page is worth ten thousand words.

I have read "Marine Sniper" and wanted another book about Carlos Hathcock. I did not think that a 295 page book was worth $45.00 so decided against buying it. My daughter found that I wanted "White Feather" and bought it for me for my birthday. I told her that she shouldn't have and now really mean it after reading the book. There was too much commentary on the politics of the Vietnam war, too many pages dipicting documents that I could not read on my Kindle, and far to many spelling errors for a book costing $45.00. I consider Carlos Hathcock a true Vietnam hero and was looking forward to reading more about him. "White Feather" was a disappoinment.

D. Lane
5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough Hathcock Biography
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 18, 2008
This book has an unusual layout which the authors claim is their favourite style of book (one of the more striking features are that it has has a large print format!), the authors proclaiming their stubborn determination to do things all themselves and how they like it - fair
enough. I really liked the book, yes, even the style! As they say within, this is the sort of book you would take off the shelf and could delve into at any point.

The book is a 'thorough' biography, when I say thorough I mean THOROUGH. They cover all aspects of Hathcocks life with respect heaped on this man every step of the way, and rightly so, Gunny Hathcock was an amazingly talented sniper, very brave and very humble wishing to interact with anyone who took an interest young and old and from any background - just an all round decent guy! The book is amply illustrated with unique photographs from Hathcocks youth to his time in the core with photographed copies of every important bit of paper in Hathcocks life included (including driving license pictures, and his citations from the core!).

If you are looking for a book on Hathcocks exploits as a sniper look to 'Marine sniper' as this covers all of Hathcocks adventures - the authors of this book readily heap praise on this volume. Some of the more prominent stories are recreated in this book, retold by the authors and are definitely a worthy addition. All in all this is a great book - it is expensive, but I think this reflects its limited circulation, and the meticulous nature of the research carried out within, which is monumental. The authors (sniper experts themselves) stress that there has probably not been another sniper like Hathcock and probably won't be for a time and every recounted tale hints at their admiration. If you've got the bucks and you are after a biography you won't be disappointed, however, I would read 'Marine sniper' first to appreciate the mans deeds, then this book to arrive at a sound understanding of what made the man.
