No complaints whatsoever about the DVD itself: the transfers are just fine and the DVD affordable to say the least!
The three-star rating is for 'Betrayed,' which was the reason I bought this (sorry 'Evelyn,' I have yet to even watch you). It gets three stars not for being good—it's really pretty bad—but because as an ambitious film made by talented people, it does manage to be interesting in the ways it fails to work. Debra Winger and Tom Berenger are both fantastically good in a story that doesn't understand people, FBI investigations or good taste, making for a weird viewing experience; sometimes we're nearly watching a documentary about actors trying to survive a scene that runs at right angles to human nature. The thriller plot is badly contrived and often stupid, with characters making decisions we can't believe for a second; the movie is interesting at first, then laughable, then alienating as it begins to delve into material about ugly, violent racism without real justification. Incredibly Winger and Berenger manage to salvage things in the last twenty minutes and make us care how the story will finish up...but by then it's too late. The ugliness of the subject matter may make you want to skip it, and you wouldn't be wrong, but as a demonstrating of good acting in a vacuum or a movie miscalculating and mishandling loaded material, it's interesting.
i had seen thriller before and liked it very much BUT THE BEST ONE IS EVELYN. I HAVE PURCHASED 3 one for myself and 2 for friends. Was completely satisfied with transactions from Amazon and your other carriers. Jacqueline Wojciechowski
