And what a musical thrill it was and still is! TTOTK is definitely a case of saving the best for last - this is an album with very few weak spots that runs the gamut from driving rockers (opener 'Show the World') to the introspective (closer 'Wishing Well' which incorporates some nice acoustic guitars). The standout thrills on this album are undoubtedly 'You In the Night', 'Time Goes On' and 'The Hills', three of the greatest hard rock songs ever written. I kid you not! 'You in the Night' is a relentless mid-tempo charger blessed with a godhead main riff and one of the most haunting choruses you'll ever hear - and never ever forget. 'Time Goes On' (Kim Mitchell guests) continues in similar fashion and shines with a recurring otherworldly, almost mantra-like, multi-layered chorus before the bass drops out and the song collapses into a short guitar showcase for Paul Dickinson (tone to die for, btw!) who tears it up Randy Rhoads-style. One of my favorite moments on the album. 'The Hills' is a masterpiece whose brooding intro section will give you chills - textbook tension and release on this one as the song simply pulls you in and never lets go. Brilliant piece of music.
Oh, and there's an interesting take on the Arthur Brown classic, 'Fire', which compares favorably with the version NWOBHM act More released around the same time. The other non-original on the album is the rather plain yet catchy 'Give It Up', written by Eddie Leonetti, best known as producer for the likes of Angel, Legs Diamond, Moxy and Skyhooks, among others. Probably something included with radio in mind although the band's own compositions are easily stronger.
I don't know what possessed these guys to throw in the towel after such a great album (made even more enjoyable by the fantastic production courtesy of Steve Vaughan!) which blows away their previous two releases. I'm just glad Unidisc decided to make this Canadian treasure available on CD and gave it a new lease on life. Just a wee bit essential if you ask me.
