Descripción del producto
This is Thomas the Tank Engine's first hit movie!
Amazon.com
Thomas, as anyone familiar with the eponymous, wildly popular TV series knows, is a very useful engine, and never more so than in his first theatrical release, which was a modest box-office success. On a tank filled with little more than pluck, determination, and goodwill, Thomas sets out full steam ahead on a danger-fraught mission to help his friend Mr. Conductor. The conductor's stash of magic gold dust has run out, leaving him stranded on the Island of Sodor with Junior, his flaky cousin, and Lily, a little girl enlisted to lift her grandfather out of a funk on nearby Muffle Mountain. When Thomas bravely chugs beyond his hometown tracks' buffers with Lily aboard, he's transported to Muffle Mountain's secret railway and to Lady, a long-lost steamer whose legendary engine makes her more powerful than Diesel, the train-yard bully. Together, Thomas and Lady lead Diesel on a chase that causes a bridge to collapse, taking the dastardly Diesel down with it. Most impressive about the movie is its marquee names: Alec Baldwin works magic as the dutiful worrywart Mr. Conductor, Mara Wilson is Lily, and Peter Fonda plays the cool-looking but lugubrious Grandpa. It's a cast that'll keep put-upon parents watching, if halfheartedly. Thomas fans 5 and under, meanwhile, will wish the actors wouldn't blow so much hot air; they'll want to see their hero a bigger part in steaming up the story line. --Tammy La Gorce

This is a feature-length Thomas film that doesn't conform to any of the normal conventions of any versions of the TV show the way other feature Thomas Films do (Like the Great Discovery). The animated part of the film focuses around Thomas, Lady and Diesel 10 and only shows other trains slightly. The live-action portion of the film features Alec Baldwin and Peter Fonda in strange roles. The narrative of this story is all over the place and can't hone in on a style of art direction. The tone is first whimsical, then nostalgic, then melancholy then rowdy. All over the place.
Because my boys, 7, 5, and 2 yrs old, love it. And don't just love it, but are mesmerized. The live action-collaboration with the old model railroad sets is adorable. The 7 yr old, who had long ago left behind Thomas for Ninjago and the Clone Wars, sat down with his middlest and littlest brother and hugged them as they watched. Then he said under his breath "I Always Knew Thomas was real....." The 5 and 2 have never doubted.
This live-action Thomas movie lets them Believe in the magic in a delightful way. And the tenth or so time I let them watch, I sat down with them and watched too. It isn't half bad, and it is even funny. Every time it seems too harrowing, it backs off just a bit and is safe again for preschoolers. They will love it.

Well, 13 years later I was rediscovering my childhood when I stumbled across the trailer on YouTube and it all came flooding back! With joyful tears in my eyes and the sudden (and strange) recollection of the words, scenes and characters as if I had never forgotten them after 13 years, I bought it. For £3.60 I thought FANTASTIC!!!!!
It arrived within days of purchase and as soon as it arrived, I was curled up on the sofa reliving my first film with a mug of tea and biscuits.
If it can make me smile as both a 6 year old and a 19 year old, it can for anyone. That's why I recommend this for any family, with a child who loves Thomas. You won't be disappointed - after 13 years, I certainly wasn't!!
