Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Even as a gargantuan MST3K fan, I was always irked by the fact that the gang chose to mock a genuinely good movie. It's gratifying, therefore, to see the ambitious This Island Earth reclaimed for posterity. Rated: 3/4 Jul 13, 2019 Full Review Michael E. Grost Classic Film and Television Pioneering sf drama about space travel is rich in storytelling, atmosphere, visual design and color. Aug 16, 2012 Full Review Rob Humanick Suite101.com Worth consideration from anyone who enjoys their profundity with a side of cheese. Rated: 3/5 Oct 31, 2011 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Intelligently directed by Joseph Newman. Rated: B Nov 12, 2010 Full Review Mark Bourne DVDJournal.com ...even though its increasingly camp elements have aged poorly, it deserves respect as one of the more ambitious, grandiose, and important science fiction adventures of its time. Sep 4, 2006 Full Review Steve Crum Kansas City Kansan Pretty impressive sci-fi for 1955, a near classic. Rated: 4/5 May 28, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews

Bonobo J Really impressive effects for its time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Doc M This is my favourite 1950's SciFi movie. The cinematography was a head of its time as was the look of the alien cast. Many sci fi movies have referred back to this movie including Lucas's Star Wars. It is worth to watch every minute of this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review Ted B 3.5 stars; So OK, I'm old enough to have seen this movie when it first came out in 1955. I remember being totally captivated by it. It had a certain realism in those times. The plot was certainly way ahead of its time. I totally understand the lower rating by younger critics who recognize the less than standard and unrealistic (e.g. Flames in the vacuum of outer space) Visual Effects. For all of you who rate it lowly, consider the classic Science Fiction movie '2001: A Space Odyssey". Believe it or not, that movie is 55 years old vs 68 for "This Island Earth". I'll grant you there's a great improvement, because of computers, to the special effects in 13 years. But as far as improvement to a great Science Fiction story, not so much. When rating a movie, to me all factors, including the time frame in which It was released, should be taken into consideration. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Travis B Ahead of its time, in my opinion, with visuals, costumes, and special effects. I enjoyed the storyline, plot twists, suspense and the weird dialogue, "I feel like a new toothbrush!" Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Monsol E Watched it for the Mutant, but it's only in it for a bit near the end, and it doesn't really do anything. The movie's fine, but really slow, and the whole story was ultimately pointless for all involved. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Liam D One of the most iconic 50s Sci-Fi movies but it's slower pace might turn off people Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
