Notes
Eye in the Sky is the sixth studio album by British rock band the Alan Parsons Project, released in May 1982 by Arista Records. At the 25th Annual Grammy Awards in 1983, Eye in the Sky was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album. In 2019, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Immersive Audio Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
Production
Eye in the Sky is the first of three albums the Project recorded on analogue equipment and mixed directly to the digital master tape.
Release
Eye in the Sky was the last platinum record in the United States from the band.
Eye in the Sky contains the title track, the Project's biggest hit, with lead vocals by Eric Woolfson. The album itself was a major success, reaching the top 10 (and sometimes the number one slot) in numerous countries.
The album features the instrumental piece "Sirius", which has become a staple of many college and professional sporting arenas throughout North America. It is best known for its use by the Chicago Bulls to introduce its starting line-up during its championship years of the 1990s and is still used today.
Another instrumental, "Mammagamma", was used separately by TVNZ in New Zealand and BBC Wales in the mid-1980s for their snooker coverage, and as a bed for the "My Favourite Five" feature on Tony Fenton's late-night 2FM show in Ireland across 1989 and 1990. The instrumental also saw use in an industrial video for Iveco in Italy.
On 1 December 2017, a 35th-anniversary-edition box set of the album was released, for which Alan Parsons, along with surround mastering engineers Dave Donnelly and PJ Olsson, won the Grammy Award for Best Immersive Audio Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

- Bought this pressing after reading about the mofi dsd circus- it was on sale being the deciding factor. This is by far the best sounding LP I now own- super rich and detailed. It did require a clean but is pretty much perfect now. Would it be better without the digital step? Probably not.
- Edited 3 months agoI was very excited to see this album at US$65 on Amazon (import fees included) so I didn't hesitate and bought it.
My very first MoFi!!
I'm aware of the controversy surrounding Mobile Fidelity and the lawsuit that includes this album, but I'm not an obsessive audiophile, I'm not very picky because my hearing is not the best.
So I gave this album a proper clean, a ultrasonic clean before playing it because QC is not what it used to.
Sat on my couch, served me an alcoholic beverage to celebrate (first drink in decades), put the record and play.
What do I hear?
The worst record I ever had!
Unbelievable.
Crackles and pops, surface noise, non-fill.
Horrendous experience, it was like hearing green wood on a bonfire or firecrackers.
Is this supposed to be a state of the art pressing?
As for the music, once the music drowns the noise, it sound very good, but holy cow! Only side B was free from that crap.
I gave it another wash, barely a change. The pops remained there.
I'm about to return it and ordered another copy in case I received a defective one.
Smh.
Another detail I was aware of but finally experienced first hand was the bad choice of splitting Children of the Moon and Gemini.
That really ruins the mood. So easy could've been to leave Sirius and Eye in the Sky on side A and the other 3 remaining tracks on the B side.
Record 2 is fine, no interconnected songs anyway. - Edited 8 days ago

Nice pressing, I really like the custom label with the album visual identity and cover looks really nice. It's really ahead of its time. As of sound, it sounds truly amazing. There's a bit of distortion towards the last minutes specially on side B but still sounds really clean, punchy and bright. It was mastered digitally with a Sony PCM1610 and it really shows the high definition sound, especially for 1982. Nothing gets the idea out of my head that this metallic paint peeling off the cover is radioactive lol
Nada tira da minha cabeça que essa tinta metálica descascando da capa é radioativa kkkkkkk - Edited 3 months agoI remember that it was a big deal when this came out on CD. The local rock station in Minneapolis would do a "digital hour" program in the early 1980s where they would play a CD in its entirety, on the air, uninterrupted. The idea was that people like me could cue up their tape decks to capture an entire CD on tape. We would then own a CD quality version on tape. Does this sound weird to anyone?
Did this happen in other areas of the US during the digital transition from analog Lps to Cds? So I indeed recorded this off of the air onto cassette tape and it sounded amazing. Jumping forward 40 years- I have owned this album on vinyl for several years and I can really appreciate the attention to detail and sonic quality that Alan Parsons exemplifies. Very theatrical, it's not for everyone, but I do enjoy it! Great dynamic range, shines on a decent system.

Superb quality quite vinyl with amazing quality dynamics range from topend to the nice deep bass separation 👌referencing Eye In The Sky (LP, Album) AL 9599
My copy has a 'Demonstration Record' sticker on the side A label.- Probably the best example of how APP developed into making beautiful balanced adult sophisticated music. Very good album. And having in ‘Silence and I’ an epic proggy symphonic gem. Love the title track, love the instrumental Mammagamma.
- Edited 5 months agoThis sounds really good, different but better than my original cd. I assume this is pressed from the original analog master, while the cd uses the digital master. I have 474 out of 500 so really glad i picked this up in time. Great album + cool colour + flawless sound = 5/5 stars. Recommended!
- I Adore the track “Eye In The Sky”,the Melodies, the Vocal timbre, the chord progressions, the lyrics。。。I couldn't care less how many people calibrate their Stereo to it。。。let them overlook the beauty of it。。。who cares?Listening to the past 10/12 years of contemporary Dreampop there are so many songs that contain the exact same aforementioned elements and casual mid-tempo moodiness。 Wild Nothing's “Partners In Motion”, the overall tone of Devon Williams' “A Tear In The Fabric“ LP and the cool, detached reserve of much of the Horsebeach catalogue all bare ghostly reflections of songs similar to this (as does ”Purple Noon“ by Washed Out and ”Changing Faces“ by Craft Spells); The only difference between ”Eye In The Sky“ and those I've mentioned is a less dynamic vocal range by most of the contemporary acts. Any number of acts in this genre could cover this and it would fit in seamlessly。
