West Brom in last-gasp talks to sign Theo Walcott today

West Brom now very keen on late move for Theo Walcott, need to free up funds

West Brom are now very keen on a late deadline-busting transfer for Southampton winger Theo Walcott, according to Jacob Tanswell.

The Athletic journalist has reported that a one-year loan move is now on the cards for the England international who has enjoyed a decorated career.

It is suggested that the Baggies still need to free up funds in order to get a move over the line, with his wageslikely above the structure at The Hawthorns.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Tanswell shared the possible move that is on the cards before the deadline slams shut at 11 pm.

“West Brom are in talks to sign Theo Walcott,” he wrote.

“It would be a one-year loan but would take Walcott to the end of his contract at Saints FC. West Brom are very keen but need to free up funds.”

Oh no.

This is certainly not the news that we were all expecting this evening.

After the arrival of Martin Kelly, it appears as though Steve Bruce is trying to bring in older English players packed with experience but not much playing time recently.

Walcott is as injury prone as they come, especially now he is towards the end of his career, and it looks likely that his wages would be very high still.

This is the most underwhelming end to a window we have seen, and as we all know, that is very hard given our recent records with transfers.

Walcott and Kelly may have more of an impact in the dressing room than on the pitch, and we cross everything that we are proven wrong and are made to eat our words.

Money still needs to be found, so this is certainly not on the verge as things stand, with a compromise likely needed to get this one done and announced in the next three hours.

In other West Brom news, the club have already been dealt a “massive kick in the head” in this transfer window.
