Opinionated Guesswork
I gave this 4 stars because its yet another fascinating account of John Lennon's narcissism. I call it opinionated and guessing because the author, Hunter Davis, couldn't be less of an expert when it comes to John and Paul's relationship, such as their "love for each other". John accused Paul of "being too smooth, glib, charming, superficial", some of the things John was and had been projecting onto Paul. Paul called John "Brutal, cruel, unfair", which is right on the money. Davis states that they could be like each other, but while Paul isn't perfect and human like anyone else, he was none of these things. I wish writers would just give the facts and not try to give their biased opinions. Many of them didn't want to admit how John truly was, so it's easier to place some or even all of the blame on Paul McCartney. If there was a genuine Beatle, Paul was it.
