The Weight Lyrics
For a moment, I felt the strength of your love
It was lightning, it was lightning
Strike down on me
[Verse 2]
I'm a lump of meat with a heartbeat
Electricity restarts me
Strike down on me, on me
[Chorus]
Every day I pray, I'm the first to go
Without you, I would be lost
I promised myself I wouldn't talk about death
I know I'm gettin' boring
[Verse 3]
I'm a man holdin' the weight of your love
But without it, my strength just isn't enough
So, strike down on me, on me
[Chorus]
Every day I pray, I'm the first to go
Without you, I would be lost
And I promised myself I wouldn't sing about death
I know I'm gettin' boring now
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
[Outro]
For a moment, I felt the weight of your love
It was lightning, it was lightning
Strike down on me

This sums up the record and feels like a smart opener. It’s a song that we’ve had for quite some time, we tried a variety of things on it – we ended up doing it very quickly in the studio."
Half the record we’ve had for a long time, it’s been a long time in gestation, this record, we’ve tried it in many different ways. I guess just going back to the demo, stripping it down, and also knowing when to make it big – and that big old riff that starts the song and starts the album, that was [Justin’s riff]. It just feels like an elegant way to open the record. Being big without being brash. Pretty straight forward, lyrically."
