      Critics Consensus

The Weekend Away makes for a painless enough home viewing experience, but Leighton Meester's performance deserved a better film.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Author Sarah Alderson adapted her own novel, and the screenplay is made slick with clues, dead-ends and sinful temptations that don’t materialize to much. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 10, 2022 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A large glass of white wine on a Friday night. Mar 9, 2022 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Fast-moving enough to provide a decent night’s disposable home entertainment for viewers whose expectations aren’t geared any higher. Mar 4, 2022 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online It's plot will keep you invested even if you do guess most of the twists along the way. Just don't expect too much from the script, however well the actors manage to elevate it. Rated: 2/5 Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Not a bad little number, this, well-directed to the genre template by Kim Farrant and with an excellent supporting performance by Luke Norris as Beth's husband Rob. His scene on the phone is a mini-masterclass in emotionally authentic acting. Rated: 3/5 Oct 30, 2022 Full Review Rahul Desai News9 Live (India) Based on a Sarah Alderson novel, this trashy little Netflix whodunnit starring Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester as the innocent American in the wrong place at the wrong time is, well, a film that’s almost deliberately unoriginal. Manali Parag J It's fantastic, fast paced suspence thriller. Must watch movie. Lead roles - specifically Leighton Meester - is excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Terry H I guess I'm starting to get out of touch with critics and audience tastes. Surprised this is rated as low as it is. For the genre, I thought they did a good job. I liked it. Kept me guessing what really happened. The last twist was probably one too many though. Should have ended it the scene before. But all in all, it was an enjoyable watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review angela g this was a good movie i dont get why all the bad reviews from the viewers Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Desyane M Very predictable the girls were too dumb, they are old enough to judge what safe or not Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Xenia O The movie in itself could have been better if we had known more about the characters. The lead character is weirdly shady but so trusting and the people she meets , that's not how normally the world works? And its absolutely crazy that she never noticed her husbands violent behavior before the end. There is little logic to the movie but it wasn't an absolute waste of time. If it was darker it would have been better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Gibraan J I've seen drama and suspense better done in b rated TV shows. Not worth the watch. Heroine is too infuriating too. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
