Could Idris Elba Become The Nick Fury Of The Extraction Universe?

Extraction Already Has Many Ties To The MCU

The experienced MCU directors may even look to borrow an element from their previous franchise and use Elba’s character in much the same way Marvel Studios uses Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury.

Not only do Netflix’s Extraction movies boast high-profile Marvel stars like Hemsworth and Elba, but it was also created by Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Based on the 2014 graphic novel Ciudad the siblings penned with Ande Parks, not only did the duo produce the Netflix movies based on Joe Russo’s scripts, but they also tapped their Avengers stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave to direct.

Given the franchise’s close ties with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is probably of little surprise that Anthony Russo has declared his intentions to see the property expand beyond the main movies into an Extraction cinematic universe. If such a move were to eventuate, the experienced MCU directors may even look to borrow an element from their previous franchise and use Elba’s character in much the same way Marvel Studios uses Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

In 2021, it was rumored that one potential Extraction spinoff could serve as an origin story for Randeep Hooda’s former Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel Saju Rav from the first film.

While little is known about Elba’s character from his all-too-brief appearance in Extraction 2, he seems the type who would be familiar with several mercenaries and operatives just as skilled as Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake. As such, Elba would be the ideal choice to serve as the main connective tissue between movies as the Extraction universe continues to expand. Moreover, if the Extraction franchise ever looks to work toward a major Avengers-type crossover movie, he would also be the natural choice to bring the various action heroes together.
