Alex S I admit to having not read the book from which the series is adapted, so I cannot comment on the accuracy of the adaption. However, on face value it is one of the best miniseries I have ever watched. The acting performances are first class, particularly Dempsey. The complex topics addressed are approached in a manner which is fresh and thought provoking. The series is unrelenting in suspense and each episode as gripping as the next. 100% recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/22 Full Review salva t Although it is quite faithful to the book, the lack of depth in the unexplored relationship between the teacher and the writer leaves many details of why he does what he does. A good cast that resembles the original characters but that doesn't make you as hooked as the book. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Utterly brilliant, compelling, best i've seen in years, you just don't know what's going to happen next, you can't guess at anything it is so well written, Nola, what an actress, hard not to fall in love. Easy to rubbish this, but you could never write anything this good in a 100 years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I tend to avoid series with more than 6 episodes for not to be bored with unneeded story threads or deviations. Well, this is not the case. It gets better and better in every episode. No wonder the book had such a success in Europe (not in the US, though - might it happen something similar with the series as well?) Annaud keeps mastering his craft splendidly Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review erwin b Pure guilty pleasure - because of the good old whodunnit-syndrome. But, let's be honest: writing and directing are so shamefully lame. The director once was a movie genius (the name of the rose) but now it looks to me like he wanted to spend a nice summer in Maine, getting paid. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Cheesy dialogues and poor screenplay made a potential good crime a cobbler representation of jerky characters. Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald The horridly clunky script for this American miniseries should have been considered for a long spell in the bottom drawer followed by quick incineration in the backyard. Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Alastair McKay London Evening Standard Annaud directs every episode, and the cinematic textures are obvious. Sep 11, 2018 Full Review James Jackson Times (UK) [This series] has a leisurely appeal, a bit like a slick early-1990s potboiler...and a polished edge of ambiguity.
