i have seen this every christmas eve for as long as i can remember. the drunken rat scene is always more shocking for a children's program than i remember which is hilarious. gorgeous animation, lovely music, and many years of watching it = sweet memories (:
Haven’t seen this in a LOOOONG time. I had the whole Peter Rabbit VHS set when I was younger. Popped into my head when I was trying to think of Christmas themed things I had seen and was able to find it on YouTube. The Tailor of Gloucester was a particularly nice episode and I had forgotten how beautiful the animation was.
Just a sweet kids cartoon. A bit strange in terms of direction so not really my thing in the end.
"mom can we watch The Tailor of Gloucester"
"we have tailor of Gloucester at home"

"Was I wise to entrust my last four pence to Simpkin?"
Honestly mate, unless you live in Far Far Far Away, entrusting your cat to buy you anything wasn't wise. As you kept on saying, the coat needs to be done by noon on Saturday, and it's Tuesday evening!
scavenger hunt #93 December 2022 - rewatch one of your favorite christmas/winter films.
The first time I ever watched this was Christmas Eve 1994 when I was eight years old and my Grandma gave me a Christmas present to open on Christmas Eve. It was a VHS tape of this - which I still have and will never part with - and I got to stay up late and watch this with her and my mom between 11.30 and midnight. I fell in love with this story - it is still and always will be my favorite Christmas story - and every Christmas Eve after 1994 that became a tradition.
Since my Grandma passed away my mom and I have continued to watch this and we always think of her when we do. I also always re-watch this later on, on the night of Christmas Eve to fall asleep to, lol.
Merry Christmas, Grandma 💖
