Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Though there are plenty of B movie beats and tropes in The Swarm, the execution of this first hour is first-rate. Sep 12, 2023 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal You can learn something from The Swarm. Though perhaps not about whale-watching. Sep 7, 2023 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian It’s well-directed by Watson. Nothing is too overstated and the not entirely unfamiliar dystopian conventions and disaster movie cliches are handled with skill and some cinematic style. Jun 16, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Morgan Common Sense Media And though the show follows the all-too-familiar plot of rebel experts challenging outdated policies and superiors, it also manages to introduce a unique global narrative on environmentalism. Rated: 3/5 Sep 25, 2023 Full Review Bruce R. Miller Sioux City Journal Director Luke Watson goes underwater occasionally and uses light to indicate turmoil but he spends far too much time on mundane character issues to really pull audiences in. Rated: 2/4 Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Joel Keller Decider The first episode of The Swarm suggests that there will be a lot of throat clearing and not a whole heck of a lot of actual thrills. Will S i loved, it its been a long times since there was a show like The Mist or The Fog, the kind I love. please give us season 2 for The Swarm in 2024. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review SHAHRIZAN M Reminiscence of the Abyss, but not as good. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Andrew P This was absolutely trash af, I waited for it to come out thinking it was gonna be about orcas but it's like a marines biology novela complete trash smfh… Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Beverley J I am trying really hard to maintain a level of interest; however, the story line is far to sporatic and difficult to follow. I was hoping for environmental points and facts and evidence, but so far all I have seen are ice worms that are growing bigger... Bacteria that is unexplainable... And, I yawn a lot and would rather take a nap! This 60 minute program is 30 minutes of show and 30 minutes of commercials and that makes it even more dislikeable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review Damario W I have seen some shows this year, but this one may be the most exhilarating and wild yet. I had a blast watching it. It's not as bonkers as The Lazurus Project on TNT, but it's right up there. The idea of a group of expert scientists fighting against a strange life form in the mysterious and unexplained depths of the ocean is truly captivating. It immediately draws the audience in, creating a sense of excitement and suspense. The deep ocean's unknown nature makes it the perfect setting for this type of story, as it leaves many questions unanswered and builds anticipation. However, the show does have its shortcomings. The initial character drama and plot development can feel generic and predictable, reminiscent of similar series. The show's lack of originality can be attributed to the fact that it is based on a popular book, and the producers must follow a similar plot structure to stay true to the source. But once the crazy stuff happens, it becomes a wildly entertaining experience. The sheer insanity of the events that unfold makes it a fun ride. Those sea creatures weren't f*cking around when you first saw them (a whale karate-chopped a boat in half, guys). It's the type of show with you on the edge of your seat, feeling like anything can happen anytime. It's the kind of show that will make you laugh at most of the unintentional stuff rather than the jokes from the main characters (I sure did). It's the kind of show that will have you leaving your house with a newfound appreciation for the power of nature despite not knowing marine life. Although shows featuring killer mammals or strange occurrences are typical, this one stands out for its willingness to embrace the unusual and outrageous. The show doesn't shy away from pushing boundaries and embraces the unique and unexpected. The show also doesn't rely on cheap scares or shock value but instead focuses on creating suspense and an intriguing plot. So, if you're looking for a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and promises a wild adventure, The Swarm might be the sleeper hit it's destined to be. And kudos to The CW for picking this up! Along with Son of a Critch, they're finally making watchable shows! If this were like their usual mushy teen dramas from pre-Nexstar past, I would check out that garbage by minute ten. Those felt like "watch in the background" type shows. But this is precisely what the promos promised. The show is fast-paced, with unexpected twists and turns. It's exactly the kind of show The CW needs to be making if they want to stay afloat. And you would be a party pooper if you missed it! EKRating: 🙌(Watch It!)
