pretty much all of my family members had this cd and played it to death when i was growing up, so u would think i’d have some connection to these songs but uh,,, no lol. these don’t hold up for me, i only kinda like ‘spiderwebs’ and even then it’s just ok

Ah, No Doubt. As a music fan here in the UK, they seemed to appear out of nowhere in 1996, topping the charts with "Don't Speak" a song with not insignificant cross-over appeal, so much so that even I picked up a copy of Tragic Kingdom back in the day. It wasn't an album that stayed in my CD collection for long. Sure, it had a few decent pop singles on it, but I found No Doubt unconvincing over a period longer than a single.
So yeah, you might expect The Singles 1992-2003 to be much more my jam then?
In a word, no.
This compilation of singles only highlights to me how few great, or even good singles this band had. "Don't Speak" was a decent pop rock ballad, "Just a Girl" has a nice sense of energy to it, and "Spiderwebs" was okay I guess... Hang on, that's just the singles from Tragic Kingdom... yikes.
Okay, so I have to admit that their cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" aside, there's not much on here that appeals to me outside of two singles from the band's breakthrough album. And a compilation like this should be the material that makes the best case for No Doubt being a brilliant pop act, and for me, it just doesn't. It's taken me a while to realise this, but I'm really not a fan of Gwen Stefani's voice, particularly when she is performing more high energy material. Granted, on some of that more high energy material, the rest of the band muster enough between them to help mask Stefani's vocal shortcomings, but that doesn't happen nearly enough. On the flip side, when it comes to the lower tempo numbers Stefani's voice works quite well, and it's so obvious that that is the case, you have to ask why the band continued to press on with the more energetic material.
The Singles 1992-2003 is a collection of material that is very of its time, and hasn't dated particularly well. There'll no doubt be some that are nostalgic for No Doubt, and that this collection of singles will be exactly what they are looking for. If you're new to the band, or have only ever heard "Don't Speak", then this is as good a place to start as any, but I'd caution you to manage your expectations.

Tragic Kingdom had its moments but beyond that No Doubt's albums were generally a load of plops, with a couple of good songs lost in a sea of filler and bilge. Still, they usually had the good sense to trot out their few good songs as their singles and as such a singles collection is largely all you need of this band. Well, look no further because here it is. The odd little tommy squeaker has sneaked in under the wire fence to spoil things a bit (that's you "Running") but for the most part what's here is good with a couple of the classics - "Don't Speak" and "Just a Girl" - creeping into very good territory.
No Doubt are never going to be my favourite band. Hell, they're never going to get into my top 100 when I think about it. But as singles bands went they had a decent run so a compilation of all that is a worthwhile own. Fair play to them because they knocked it out rightly but there's plenty of fun old guff to enjoy here.

Gwen was the beauty, brains, and brawns of this band. Without her there's "No Doubt" they would suck ass.

Yes, No Doubt are a singles band. I must assume that since the only studio album I have heard by them, Tragic Kindgom, is one of the best examples of a 90s album where the singles are uniformly better than anything else.
This is a good compilation in that sense, but personally I can't say more than it is above average because honestly I find No Doubt to have gotten less and less musically interesting as their career progressed (or at least less appealing to me). Tragic Kingdom has always been a borderline guilty pleasure for me (some days I like it alright, some days I'm really embarrassed that I have listened to it so many times) but I don't really like their extremely poppy dalliances with rock steady and dancehall (and I don't like those styles anyway). And frankly I've never liked their lyrics much.
But this is what it says it is and if you like No Doubt that's a good thing.

No Doubt is a band that reminds me of my childhood. It was one of the first bands I listened to as a kid back in the day and had a big impact on me.
I have a distinct memory of hearing songs from Return Of Saturn back in 2000 or 2001 in the radio and enjoying them a lot, however that is how much of a No Doubt fan I am, I only stick most of the time with their popular stuff and as such this compilation is perfect for me. I love the sequencing of the track listing and the balance of this and whenever I'm the mood for this band "The Singles 1992-2003" does a great job at satiating that need to get my No Doubt fix.
