Editorial Reviews
All Saints is proud to announce reissues of 4 Brian Eno solo albums recorded 1992-1997, each with exclusive bonus content. Nerve Net bonus content includes THE FIRST OFFICIAL RELEASE of the legendary lost album, My Squelchy Life originally scheduled for release in '91 but withdrawn at the last moment, thus entering the lexicon of Eno myth. Shutov Assembly contains 7 completely unreleased songs from Eno archives taken from the same period. Each 2 CD edition comes in deluxe case bound packaging and contains the original album on the first disc alongside a second disc of unheard or rare music from the Brian Eno archives. Each 2 LP album is accompanied by a 16 page booklet compiling photos, images and writing by Eno himself that is relevant to each release, ll being cut on double LP for better sound quality (some originally only released as single LP, or never on vinyl).

The problem is I have bought 4 copies of this album, 2 from Amazon and 2 others from two other vendors. So I have given up trying to buy another copy. Two of the copies had two of the same basic defect. On these two side four had this substance stuck to the vinyl. It was about 1/16 in diameter which caused it to tick at least a dozen times. One other copy had the same ticking but no visible sign of why. The last copy disc 2 was warped. Bummer Man!!!!
A fairly accurate description. This has far more going on that the former.
I just upgraded to the digitally remastered version and it sure sounds good.
The music is recognisably Eno ( with others ) but isn't his best work
As dreamy as they are powerful in scope, Eno shows how he understands the vast potential of ambient music as art and delivers a masterpiece.

Of the original music - so beautiful and stimulating to the ear, each piece would trigger a memory relevant to past recordings that I adore. Though purely coincidental, certain tracks sound like they belong on Music for Films, others - more relevant to On Land or Apollo - and so on, which is more than can be said for the additional material because that music follows no path or direction? Basically, it's incidental music with an experimental stance, not helped by the overuse of percussive tones and probably more apt to the term 'dark ambient' - a phrase coined by Eno himself.
For me, I'm confused by the additional recordings, they belong elsewhere. I'm not saying I don't like the music, Eno could record an album using just a triangle and it would work for me, but there's no logic or relevance behind this new selection.
Just to clarify, the original 1992 recording gets a big deserved 5 out of 5 - but the additional stuff only 3.5 out of 5.
