Every year, a member of the British royal family (or more than one!) attends the annual Royal Variety Performance. Since 1912, the show has taken place to support the Royal Variety Charity. That first year, in 1912, King George V and Queen Mary attended.
King George V decreed, "the Monarch or a senior member of the Royal Family, would attend an annual Performance, in aid of Brinsworth House and the Royal Variety Charity, once a year thereafter, to demonstrate the Royal family's love and support for the entertainment industry and its associated charity." So, there's been a royal guest at the performance ever since.
This year, the honor falls to two royal couples, one British and one Swedish. Prince William and Kate Middleton are joined tonight at Royal Albert Hall by Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden. The Waleses have attended five times previously—including, most recently, in 2021.
This morning, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed the Swedish royals to Windsor Castle, and now, they're having a night out together in London. Here, see all the best photos of the four royals (and Cher!) at the 2023 Royal Variety Performance:
