Those About To Die is set in 79 AD in Rome, the world’s wealthiest city. Rome is receiving an influx of slaves from the expanding empire, and its population is becoming bored, restless, and increasingly aggressive. The promise of free food and dramatic entertainment, including as chariot racing, animal combat, and gladiator bouts, keeps the crowd in line.
These races are governed by four corporations: the Blue, Red, White, and Green factions, and stock in these businesses is the most valuable asset in Rome. As the need for carnage grows, the Colosseum is constructed, resulting in a bustling underworld in which betting is the key to wealth and fortune. Thousands will be slaughtered in the cause of entertainment.
