When two young lovers crash their car into a ravine in the remote mountains of Wales, they are plunged into a lost world. A really beautifully shot and well acted film that has a small cast of characters and is primarily based around a single location. The musical score here is top notch as well as its sets a mood of unease. All 3 actors Dyfan Dwyfor, Annes Elwy, and especially Mark Lewis Jones are really good here.
A couple Iwan and Sara crash their car into a river and are helped by Stanley who is living alone in a house that seems from another time. As the days pass Sara and Stanley become close and Iwan starts to become unhinged.
This is definitely not a film for everyone as it a very slow burn which focuses more of character relationships and atmosphere.…

Essentially a three-hander featuring Mark Lewis Jones, Annes Elwy and Dyfan Dwyfor, The Passing (AKA Yr Ymadawiad) is a real slow-burner that just manages to make the finale a worthwhile one for patient viewers. Just.
Elwy and Dwyfor play Sara and Iwan, two people dragged from a car accident by a hermit-like man named Stanley (played by Jones). Looking at their isolated environment as a bit of a blessing, Sara and Iwan start to consider staying longer than their recovery time, with few, if any, objections from Stanley.
It's hard to write too much about The Passing because what you get is a truly beautiful piece of cinema with very little else seeming to take up the runtime, superficially. Below…

Billed as the first Welsh-language genre film, THE PASSING is moody, atmospheric, well shot, well acted and utterly predictable. When I read the synopsis, I called the ending. And I was 100% right. If you've seen enough movies, you'll probably do the same. It's a shame really because every else is so well done but it's all in service of a story that's been told a 1000 times.

For some odd reason, we've recently seen a bunch of movies employ the trope of placing three characters in a remote location and letting paranoid, claustrophobic tension run riot. Craig Zobel's Z For Zachariah gave us three survivors in a post-apocalyptic Deep South; Stephen Fingleton's The Survivalist offered a similar, but far more effective setup in Northern Ireland; and the controversially named 10 Cloverfield Lane locked its trio in a bunker, leaving the condition of the outside world thrillingly ambiguous.
