      Critics Consensus

The Owners will prove excessively mean-spirited and over the top for some, but should be just pulpy enough for genre enthusiasts up for some home-invasion thrills.

Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Hugo S A group of friends decide to invade the property of an elderly rich couple. However, the robbery becomes a nightmare for these inexperienced thieves as they become easy targets. Unexpectedly, the couple reveals to be two manipulative predators with dark intentions. "The Owners" is a home invasion thriller that bets all the cards in the surprise element. An entertaining story showing us that sometimes hunters become the hunted! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Toni M incredibly boring, predictable and i felt like the elderly couple whom were psychotic / killers / mentally ill / unhinged or whatever has already been done before in the 2015 movie ‘The Visit' (when a sister and brother go to see their estranged grandparents only to discover that something is very wrong with them and they become very scared by their bizzare behaviour) and i could very easily see the same trope here unfolding as soon as the movie started, lol. 😅🙄 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review Felina It was pretty entertaining. It did keep me watching it. Had a couple interesting twists... though it did leave me with some unanswered questions. Overall though, not bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Kyle J More information needed to be given the audience throughout the story for the ending to make sense. The goofy-fat-kid-turned-neurotic-basket case could have been more interesting (maybe in-on-it). Was he? A lot unanswered, perhaps to allow for sequels? Unanswered because the director could not figure out what he wanted from the script. SPOILER ALERT: (I don't like bad guys to "get away with it.") Donald Clarke Irish Times Williams and her contemporaries are excellent. The senior actors do, however, steal the show. It's lovely to see both having such a disreputably good time. Rated: 3/5 Feb 26, 2021 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Berg, who has worked mostly in French TV and makes his feature debut here, has a knack for ratcheting up suspense and finessing the technicalities in order to maximise the creepiness. Rated: 3/5 Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound From this chaotic clash between different classes and generations, a genre-distorted picture emerges of contemporary Britain where property is in the hands of senior citizens, and the have-nots are forced to keep living with their elders. Oct 20, 2020 Full Review Kevin Woodley InSession Film The Owners is a strange oddity, curiously unhinged but entirely forgettable. Rated: D+ Apr 3, 2024 Full Review Jessica Scott Nightmarish Conjurings You never know what’s going on behind closed doors, The Owners tells its audience and, for your own sake, you really don’t want to find out. Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín The film, with all its scares, more or less cuts a fine figure. [Full review in Spanish] Mar 24, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
