The concept behind The New Mutants is a solid, intriguing one that could've reinvigorated the familiar origin superhero story. Instead, Boone opts for genericism, ending the X-Men franchise with an angsty-teen whimper.

[The teen horror genre] analogizes the fear of our formative years with the fear of the supernatural. And the X-Men comics created a metaphor about the unease of adolescence through characters with powers that manifest in puberty. I love the pairing.
