The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) Reviews

Ultimately, the great strengths of The Meyerowitz Stories are the performances. Beyond that, Baumbach's crafted an attractive, gently funny family study, but not one that demands to be seen in a theatre.

...a slapdash narrative that grows less and less involving as it unfolds.

The Meyerowitz Stories stands among Baumbach's best work to date.

The writing is deeply sharp and deeply felt, [and] Hoffman is the best he's been in decades.

An all-star cast provides some enjoyable LOLs playing a family of oddballs...

Could have been maudlin but when filtered through director Noah Baumbach's sensibility is a smart and heartwarming.

I howled like a goon for a good deal of this film. It's a lot of fun to see with other people.

Noah Baumbach brought his distinctive voice to a story about a dysfunctional siblings and their dictatorial father brought to life by stellar performances...

Richly textured, three-dimensional characters mash well with actor chemistry that is infectious to watch.

What sounds like common indie fare in terms of content and themes is livened up by Baumbach's humor and an endearing critique of the art scene, sometimes taking a nearly parodical tone.

The things that this family focuses on and obsesses over may drive you nuts. But it's an honest and true profile of a family that is in crisis but has learned to navigate it rather than fix it.

You have to wonder about a writer-director who wishes his characters would just shut up. I thought that was my job!

Long-standing feuds and petty squabbles often ring true and when they don't, they are entertaining enough to keep the audience invested.

Loud but vapid [and] distinctly petty.

[The Meyerowitz Stories] feels very much like a wacky, dysfunctional family trying to find it's way like The Royal Tenenbaums for a new generation.

I think we are before the best work of Baumbach, the most mature and complete to this date. [Full Review in Spanish]

There's a certain air of melancholy that hangs over the film, permeating every frame with a sense of missed opportunity and a lifetime of buried feelings.

Probably deserves better than to be hailed as "the good Adam Sandler film on Netflix".

A hilarious and poignant portrayal of a broken family, The Meyerowitz Stories is truly sublime.

Depicts with ups and downs the gathering of an estranged, dysfunctional family.
