      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Lost World demonstrates how far CG effects have come in the four years since Jurassic Park; unfortunately, it also proves how difficult it can be to put together a truly compelling sequel.

Adam Nayman The Ringer While it pales in comparison to the original, there’s plenty to appreciate when viewed through a different lens. May 27, 2022 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune I was disappointed as much as I was thrilled because "The Lost World" lacks a staple of Steven Spielberg's adventure films: exciting characters. Rated: 2/4 Apr 8, 2020 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com A remarkably underrated film that's actually improved with age. The FX are still dazzling, the filmmaking is top notch, and please put Jeff Goldblum in everything! Rated: A- May 26, 2015 Full Review Brian Rowe InSession Film A film that has its moments, which includes some terrific action and visual effects, but overall remains one of Steven Spielberg's most disappointing and disposable entertainments in a mostly impressive career. May 3, 2023 Full Review Kent Garrison Mad About Movies Podcast The best Jurassic Park sequel, because it's directed by Steven Spielberg. Rated: B Jun 9, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Has none of the awe or spectacle that its predecessor had perfected, nor any of the thoughtful moral and scientific analysis that made Jurassic Park unique for an escapist adventure. Nathan M I hate this movie. I felt pure rage and frustration building up during every second of the movie. The only good character is Ian Malcom. The "good" guys were insufferable and made horrendous decisions throughout the entirety of the movie that killed dozens of innocent people. A few of the "bad" guys were actually the smart ones and wanted to kill the dinosaurs in many parts of the movie. Sadly, the dumbass "good" guys made horrible decisions, from taking bullets out of the guns to releasing dinosaurs into crowds of innocent bystanders. The movie was so illogical, and I believe that it was the first movie that I could not finish. I am disappointed with Stephen Spielberg. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Patrick F The first Jurassic Park film was basically perfect. It didn't need a sequel, but got one anyway. Right off the bat The Lost World: Jurassic Park falters by not bringing back the entire original cast. Sam Neil and Laura Dern's presence was missed greatly. Other than Jeff Goldblum's Malcolm there wasn't a single character I cared about in this movie. Whereas the humor in the first film was natural and playful, the humor in this film was occasionally forced and dull. The San Diego part at the end was ridiculous. The movie would have been better if it just stayed entirely on the island. That being said, it had some cool dinosaur stuff and intense action scenes. Jeff Goldblum carried the film from start to finish and was really terrific. Still a decent movie that I will watch every once in a while. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Audience Member It’s a good movie definitely not as good as the original I can understand why people hate it I still think it’s a really great movie especially today seriously the buck T. rex in San Diego was definitely a great scene Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/09/24 Full Review BOBER E Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Lux C la relation entre Ian et sa fille rachète le film, mais il a des longueurs pénibles Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Ryan B After the masterpiece of Jurassic Park, with great storytelling, spectacle, breath taking design, and intrigue, this movie was respectfully garbage. The set designs and puppets here are awesome, but that's about it. The acting comes off bland and annoying, and the story has moments of complexity that are followed by moments of stupidity. the transition to action and comedy is one that is ultimately a disservice to the franchise and disrespectful to the original film.
