I wonder if it was the death of Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley the year previous that inspired Caroll O'Connor to try his hand at updating this title. Sadly, it's marred by unimaginative sets and too brightly lit interiors. The sun-drenched exteriors are also distracting. It would have been much better had it been set in the winter. I assume they shot it in California, it's too bad they didn't have the money to shoot it in Pennsylvania. The cast however is quite good and their talents are on full display. "No shanty Irishman is ever a good Republican." Recommended.
