You definitely can get S-rank just by using the trial units. I auto'd Supreme Leader with a team of Argenti, Sparkle, Tingyun, and Huohuo with RFA or the other one (can't remember) and Hone Your Strength
I used the exact same team on that stage as well, I was curious to see how well the trial characters handled themselves. Took all 4 cycles but still cleared with S-rank.

You can get S rank by using trial units and leaving it on auto, yes
Rewards arent even rank based, you just need to kill all 3 bosses
And killing all 3 bosses gets you an S
What I meant is that all the jades are behind only the first two bosses, so with just a rank A you get the jades.
TBH the stages are extremely easy. I just use trail characters and can clear S-rank pretty easily

I've cleared every stage of this event so far at SS rank with Argenti except the obviously DOT and Blade ones. He's a monster used in the right circumstances

Yup, I got hella lucky and accidentally E1'd him in like 30 pulls and every time phys-weak MOC shows up I slap a Tingyun/Sparkle on him and shit MELTS. Man saw the amount of people saying "ez skip" on his banner said "bet" and ended up being a free pass for one side of PF and also made the 1.6 weekly boss way easier if you have him the nanosecond his banner ended. Hoyo made sure to punish the skippers the patch right after him lmao.
Really hoping he comes into the main story, it's a crime that this man is an entirely missable character who literally appears in his own quest then disappears from the plot.
I pulled Argenti on a whim but didn't build him until the latest pure fiction. He absolutely demolished physical weak content and I've barely put any effort into getting him relics.
At this point, I just copium for AoE relics. He is still using borrowed Quantum pieces.
I had a couple nice boxer pieces from when I tried to build Luka, but yea, my Argenti is wearing 2 musketeer pieces
Fun fact, on Supreme Leader you can clear with 4-5 cycles remaining.
Just put Tingyun (preferable with Dance Dance Dance) in the first slot and Argenti on the second. Add Sparkle, and if you have her Ruan Mei, and you're ready to go. Bronya might work well too. Choose the Energy Regeneration buff, and you almost have a perpetuum mobile with Argenti refilling Tingyun's Ultimate and her Ultimate filling up half of Argenti's Ultimate (and almost half regenerates from him killing enemies, and new ones spawning).
On the latest one, Seele can get a super easy 4 cycles remaining clear with Tingyun + Other Turn Advance Supps. You just overkill the adds with your ult and skill. Literally a sleepwalk
Yeah, she just murders. With Bronya and Sparkle (and Ruan Mei) it is even possible to do it in one cycle.

If you want the S rewards, you can use trial characters and set the thing to auto and clear with S, as long as you have buffs for those recommended characters.

I found it to be pretty easy with my own Acheron, Black Swan, Pela. Just need to know the mechanics of building up Acheron's stacks
I had much better luck with acheron kafka black swan than trying to fit in pela in any set up.
I think it's a thing in most events that have ranking, not just in Star Rail but Genshin too

Yeah I think trial characters have traces to 8, no eidolons, and maybe sig LC? But the relics are unclear, I think you can't look at them. So for most people that actually have the unit themselves, their own is probably better
These trial characters all have 4* Light Cones or the Simulated Universe 5* ones

Nah man, it's the impulsive desire to max out the rankings regardless of reward and finding out after 5 days that S wasn't even the highest one kinda surprise.
Is it necessary? Nope.
Will it bother me until the end event so I'll go back and try to SS it? Yes.
And with most challenges, none of it is important at all. It's just the principle.
I tried the "Propagation" setup with trial units with DHIL, Tingyun, Sparkle, Huohuo. Ended up using my own units as trial DHIL was hitting too softly for SS rank.
Bruteforcing Acheron hypercarry was the way.

Found this out on day 3. Then it made me lose my mind trying to get SS on days 1 and 2.
Had to do some crazy stuff to get it too, day 1 all nihility no sustain to get as many Acheron ults as fast as possible and on day 2 completely ignored the hp draining stage gimmick and went with a FuA Ratio+Topaz team and it somehow worked.
I think I only got it on the first one? I think you have to clear it with 2 or 3 cycles to spare. It's not just beating the boss.

I did not use any sustains for these, so you might wanna give that a try.
Almost had SS on the last stage because my Ratio popped off so hard he kept throwing chalk every second. The trial Topaz is such a huge help too.
