      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Despite some iffy plot elements, The Italian Job succeeds in delivering an entertaining modern take on the original 1969 heist film, thanks to a charismatic cast.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Exciting heist film for teens and their families. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader This one offers some agreeably mindless fun in which the villains (including Norton) are truly villainous, the payback is satisfying in a purely infantile way, and the familiarity of everything is oddly comforting. May 6, 2008 Full Review Derek Adams Time Out Itresembles a film made up on the fly. The cast, too, are strictly cut from comic books. Don't expect any unconventional endings either. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz The support cast isn't much better. Jason Statham just repeats his Transporter role, while the permanently grumpy Norton has made it clear his participation was a result of contractual obligation... Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 7, 2022 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a seriously lazy would-be blockbuster that's nevertheless affable and breezy enough to warrant a mild recommendation. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 2, 2020 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com It is in Gray's spirited execution that such by-the-book formula makes for a brisk, slick entertainment hits the summer movie spot. Kal S An uninspired addition to the glamorised crime/revenge genre. The characters, the conflict, the car chases—it all just ticks along with little surprise or suspense. Watchable, but not memorable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Amir A The pacing could've been a bit faster but nonetheless, this is a great movie with incredible stakes and Edward Norton as a great unremorseful villain. this movie was what I wanted ocean's eleven to be and this is so far the definitive best heist movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Katie Q This movie was as bland as a saltine cracker Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Ronald R Great Movie!!!! Highly Recommended!!!! A++ 🍿🎥🍿 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Sean S For a modern remake of a classic this movie does a great job of elevating the action and even the stealing as well. I personally still love the classic more but as far as remakes go this one is worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review John K Good movie. I've noticed that this movie is showing up on free TV. On Zap2it tv listings, I've noticed that whoever is reviewing movies is not just giving the intro setup of the movie, but often spoils the movie. Here is the blurb for The Italian Job: A master thief (Mark Wahlberg) and his crew plan to steal back a fortune in gold bullion after they lose it to a double-crossing gang member (Edward Norton). The betrayal of the gang by the Norton character happens half way through. So this is actually spoiling the movie. I wish they wouldn't do that anymore.
