Synopsis

On the May day in 1927 that the world anxiously awaits news of pilot Charles Lindbergh's daring flight across the Atlantic, Irish Republican Army veteran Harry arrives at Fire Island, New York, where he intends to land a shipment of contraband whiskey. Hoping to send the proceeds from the illegal sale back to his former cohorts in Ireland, Harry must avoid brutal Coast Guard Lt. Commander Ashley, who is searching for him. Befriended by showgirl Goldie Fain and her companion Fitzmaurice, Harry also evades Maxie, the representative of the local crime syndicate that resents the Irishman's intrusion into their territory. In the eventual confrontation between the three men, Harry's girl friend, Maeve, is wounded, but the couple, along with Goldie and Fitzmaurice, successfully flee the island.

Notes

The working title of the film was A Change in the Wind. Information for Irish Whiskey Rebellion, which was not viewed, was compiled from contemporary news items, publicity information and the film's Box Office review. Although numerous news items indicate that long-time producer Chester Erskine was set to direct the film, the Box Office review and one news item credit "J. G. Works" and "J. C. Works" as the picture's director and co-writer along with Leslie Waller. It is possible that Erskine used the pseudonym of Works on the film's credits. The film was shot on location on Fire Island, NY. The November 6, 1972 Box Office news item notes that the film opened simultaneously on 27 October in Madison, WI, Lansing, MI, Lafayette, IN and Champaign, IL. Modern sources add Trent Gough to the cast.
