These characters have an angle in this movie worth noting even in our day-to-day stress of work and/or working long hours. I enjoyed there upbeat attitudes on life and how they dealed with today's millennial's in there digital world. There is something to smile about in just about every scene. The Harry Potter games played where the two main characters didn't know how the game was played. The dating scene with Owen Wilson still makes me smile thinking about it. His character had high points for me with his positive innuendo remarks to the other characters and his friend in the movie.
When watching movies in general they almost always start out really good, then halfway through it something bad has to happen and it's something BIG that goes wrong and the story takes different turn for the worst then ya feel you made a mistake watching it. I admit, I was waiting for the "Bad" part to show up and when it did, it didn't take the movie in spiral down turn to regret.
This is a movie worthy of buying. 😉👍🏻
Although "The Internship" wasn't a bad movie, and there was a few chuckles, it lacked magic and in many ways felt formulaic. Also, the chemistry between Owen and Vince that was in Wedding Crashers just wasn't there.
I wanted to love this movie, instead I found myself hoping to be able to hang in there to the end.
This "Unrated version" features an overlong strip joint sequence that seemed to go on and on and on... and while it served a plot point, I just felt they left the entirety of it in because, as we know, sex sells. Truth be told the sequence was just way overdone and at the end of the day unnecessary.
I guess, to sum things up, I was let down. I was expecting the magic of Wedding Crashes but it just doesn't deliver on that.
What I loved about this movie the most was the mentor-like relationship between the two men and the younger coworkers that eventually developed. It was so positive and sweet. Who wouldn't want these guys at their company? It was kind of depressing also that there was only one woman on the team, (which, sadly, reflects my experience at Google Engineering and other Silicon Valley companies) but it was awesome that she was treated respectfully and the only dating that went on was between similarly aged characters (for a change!)

In all honesty, I really enjoyed this film. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan have that undeniable chemistry, but we all knew that already, so what do they bring to their latest film? For me, it is a genuinely thought provoking and highly amusing film. I'm someone who is a little older than the supporting cast, works in a technical role for a software company and has managed to get that first foot on the ladder. As a comedy therefore, it is particularly refreshing to see it tackle a number of real emerging issues, like how the relevance of degrees are diminishing because everyone has one, and that not everyone who works in the field fills the typical geek stereotype. Rose Byrne's talents are also put to good use, demonstrating how easy it is to get lost in the world of work when a company is able to provide such an immersive culture, and that you shouldn't entirely write off your 20's and 30's in a reckless pursuit of career success.
Wilson and Vaughan don't just have that chemistry with each other, they bond really well with the supporting cast. There is no real weak link, and some fantastic cameos by John Goodman, Will Ferrell and Rob Riggle. I'm also impressed that for a film of regular length, they managed to fit in so much character growth from start to finish. The story is that classic cliche of older generations being out of touch with technology, and whilst exaggerated in parts, it does an excellent job at not making it feel like one of those classic cliches. Happily, it also explores the role reversal, that the younger generation haven't experienced what many older generations have by their age, and indeed the benefits of soft skills. This is what I think gives it an edge, it shows both generations are capable of benefitting the other, given the chance.
Overall, I know this film won't be everyone. These two, the focus on Google and the tried and tested comedy format tend to polarize people, but I encourage you to give it a try. It's a smarter comedy than it initially lets on if you listen to its message, with an uplifting and thoughtful story. Instead of playing to those age old cliches, it tries to challenge them, which results in both a touching and amusing comedy.
Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn are as excellent as they are in the classic Wedding Crashers, the supporting cast is extremely solid & surprising, with some new faces, standout cameos from Will Ferrell & Josh Gad (Steve Wozniak in Jobs), the script is up to the task, it is very funny, inspirational in a way, and most of all, it approaches its subject & characters without any cynicism whatsoever. The whole Google background is what makes this movie standout from the rest of the crowd ! All in all, this is a well-written, funny, well-acted, inspirational comedy that will leave you with a smile on your face. Do not miss out on the awesomely made ending credits.
great team working lessons watching this movie!
Memorable quotes:
- Nick Campbell: "People have a deep distrust of machines. Have you seen Terminator? Or 2? Or 3? Or 4?"
Nick: You got us a job at Google?
Billy: Well, not a job job. It’s an interview for an internship that could lead to a job. Nick, this might be the last chance that we’ve got.
Mr. Chetty: We have rules. The red paddle indicates no, the green paddle indicates yes.
Mr. Chetty: Having a beer with your boss.
[all interns raise their red paddles, except Billy and Nick]
Billy: You want to grab a cold one with me, you let me know.
Mr. Chetty: I will not be grabbing a cold one with you.
Billy: You get high?
[moves on to next rule]
Mr. Chetty: Dating a fellow intern.
[all other interns raise their red paddle, Billy raises his green paddle]
Billy: Yes.
Mr. Chetty: No.
Mr. Chetty: This is Google, not Match.com
Billy: So we’ll say “no” to love?
Mr. Chetty: We’ll say “no” to love.
Any questions?
Billy: Is a one-night-stand considered dating?
The ending has a great lesson on the weird concept of "googliness", that I understood
is something beyond normal intelligence to grasp. A great way to spend some hours and have fun.
Basically the two main characters played by Vaughn and Owen lose their jobs in sales and end up trying to get an internship at Google with a load of geeky graduates, it's a take on the fish out of water kind of plot. I don't know if Google really is like it is in the film but I really want to work there if it is, this was one of the best things about the movie, so many interesting things to look at.
Vaughn and Owen were on top form too, I found it genuinely funny and not cringey like some comedies, I didn't really like wedding crashers so wasn't sure this would be any better but I was wrong, as comedies go, this is well worth a watch to at least judge it for yourself.
