Year 6 Transition

2024

Welcome to The Halley Academy's Transition Site

At The Halley Academy we are guided by our inclusive values and intrinsic characteristics of Respect, Achievement, Collaboration, Integrity and Resilience in everything we do.  Academic success and personal development is our number one priority.  We are committed to delivering an education of excellence for all, equipping students with the knowledge, qualifications and experiences they need to play an active and informed role in society, and to lead successful and fulfilling adult lives. Our students are inquisitive, articulate and resilient, defined by their boundless thirst for knowledge, self-improvement and learning.

We are excited to welcome you to our academy family, benefiting from excellent teaching, our small-school model of pastoral care which values each child’s unique needs, and an unprecedented investment in our learning environment which we have been able to secure as part of a highly successful multi-academy trust.  All of our Year 7-11 students receive their own Chromebook device free of charge to support their learning in the classroom and at home. We are an IB World School, offering an exciting, innovative and rewarding curriculum. Students benefit from our state-of-the-art sporting facilities, and our brand new STEM Centre was  completed in May 2022.

This is an exciting time for students to be joining us. Our first cohort of Halley Academy students achieved the best-ever GCSE results in the academy’s history in August 2023. We’re immensely proud to now be one of the top performing mixed comprehensive schools in Greenwich, and we were celebrated in Schools Week magazine as the third most improved school in the country for the progress of disadvantaged pupils, compared with pre-pandemic performance. Our Year 13 cohorts have a consistent track record of outperforming international averages in the IBCP programme, and we are now oversubscribed in many Key Stage 3 year groups. This year we have successfully launched our new T-Level programmes in Year 12, and our brand new Visual and Performing Arts Centre will be opening in April.

Our aim is to ensure the transition from primary to secondary school is as smooth and seamless as possible. We are to ensuring that you have the information about academy life so that all of our new Year 7 students feel positive about starting their secondary learning journey with us.

How to use this site

This site has been designed to compliment our main website and to be a primary point of contact for all things relating to the transition process, such as questions, information and transition activities.

We have a number of pages for families to discover which will help prepare our future students for the next chapter in their academic journey, transitioning from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 at The Halley Academy.  This will prepare our students and families for what is expected when they join us in September 2024

We will regularly update this page when we are approaching an important event and when we wish to communicate key information, so please continue to access this site to keep up to date with our transition programme.
