The Great Escape Artist

Jane’s Addiction

About “The Great Escape Artist”

This is the fourth JA’s studio album. Perry said in a little Making Of posted by the band on Youtube that when the band got together for a tour (around 2008) it felt heartbreaking to play live shows again and not present new material to the fans. So the energy of making a new album was around and getting stronger.

In this album, they embraced some new musical technologies they not used before on Jane’s Addiction. Some demos was recorded in different places and shared with each other by email, like, for example, the vocals that Perry recorded on his own studio, alone. There’s synths here and there. Dave Navarro’s guitar lines are softer and solos are simpler compared to the first two albums. From this site: “The music that I listen to and love isn’t necessarily rock-oriented anymore,” Navarro explicated to Rolling Stone. “There is a beauty in simplicity that I’m really embracing. To me, that’s evolution as an artist.”

It has a unique atmosphere, it’s melodical, it’s trippy, it’s beautiful.
