      Critics Consensus

The Good Liar is less than the sum of its prestigious parts, but Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren keep the proceedings consistently watchable.

Google The film has many moving parts which kept me interested. I love puzzles, especially in a film and I couldn't help trying to dig through what wasn't obvious. The use of a new technique of truth-telling was great! Quite unusual. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/20 Full Review Rex Great performances by Helen Mirren and Ian McLellan. Plot good but somewhat predictable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/27/19 Full Review Anita G One of the best thrillers I've seen in a long time. keeps you guessing until the very end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/20 Full Review Carol F Don't give away the ending. Very well acted, and didn't see that ending coming. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/19 Full Review Rogerio R Took my mom, she loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/19/19 Full Review Danielle Loved the movie both actors were superb in their roles. David Stratton The Australian With actors like these in top form there's never a dull moment, even when the film delves into flashbacks set in the distant past. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 9, 2019 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's an enthralling exercise but a peculiarly cerebral one -- a psychological thriller without the thrills. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 27, 2019 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba The Good Liar shifts our character sympathies so fully that you'll relish the comeuppance on display, but the script telegraphs the emotional impact of this twist. Nov 25, 2019 Full Review Britany Murphy The Reel Roundup Although some moments aren't for the faint of heart, The Good Liar is certainly worthy of a watch. Rated: 3/5 Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Bianca Garner Next Best Picture Overall, The Good Liar is a good way to pass the time on a rainy afternoon in the fall but not a film you should rush out to see. Rated: 5/10 May 5, 2021 Full Review MontiLee Stormer MovieReelist.com It's a calmer, gentler mystery, and maybe that's the point. Sometimes it's the quiet death of a thousand cuts that's the most devastating. Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
