"The Good Fight" Season 6 Cast, Release Date, How to Watch and More - Parade Skip to main content

The Good Fight Season 6 will be the series' last—and it's finally here.

Creators Robert and Michelle King said of the show coming to a close, “We've loved fighting The Good Fight these last six seasons. To be able to tell stories about an upside-down world in real-time has been a gift. And to have worked with these talented, brilliant, generous actors, writers and crew has been a blessing. Our hope/scheme is to find ways to work with all of them again in the future."

Christine Baranski was shocked that The Good Fight was ending, but understood why the creators felt it was necessary.

"I had finished a marvelous workday with John Slattery and Gary Cole—I didn't know what was coming. By the time I got home, [series co-creators] Robert and Michelle [King] called me and told me it's going to be the end … I was stunned," Baranski recalled to TV Line. "My heart dropped … I tried to be sanguine and understand the reasoning for it, but it was a loss of so many things: the consistency of the work; the marvelous group of people that constitute the show; the marvelous writing."

She added, "I don't think I ever took for granted just how lucky I was to be on such a quality show. I started enjoying the work more than ever in my final few seasons."

Brace yourself for the end with everything you need to know about The Good Fight Season 6, including release date, how to watch, cast and more.

Is The Good Fight getting a Season 6?

Rejoice, Good Fighters! The Good Fight is indeed getting a Season 6. Unfortunately, however, it will be the show's final season.

Is The Good Fight being canceled?

Season 6 is the final season of The Good Fight. Creators Robert and Michelle King said that they simply wanted the show to end on a high note to avoid getting stale.

"We got tired, and we looked at how we were building Season 6 and felt that if there was ever a time to end the show it was [now], given the cataclysmic nature of the season," Robert King told TV Line. "And as much as the show was great in reacting to the zeitgeist, it felt like it would have a certain repetition if we kept going."

Michelle King noted, "Season 6 is very much about civil war [erupting] in our country, and it felt like that was the story to tell in the last season of this show."

When is The Good Fight Season 6 Episode 1 release date?

The Good Fight will premiere Season 6 Episode 1 on Sept. 8, 2022. From there, new episodes of The Good Fight will drop weekly on Thursdays through Nov. 10, 2022.

How can I watch The Good Fight Season 6?

Who is in The Good Fight Season 6 cast?

The cast of The Good Fight Season 6 will include:

Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart

Baranski grew emotional in an interview with TV Line about the series ending, but understood why it needed to happen now to keep the narrative of the show strong.

"It's a hard show to write because it’s about what’s going on in the world, and I think Robert [King] didn’t want to risk repeating himself. And I certainly never wanted to risk repeating myself, playing over and over that I was angry or exasperated," she said. "It's possible we had taken Diane's psychology about being maxed out about what was going on and her inability to cope with it as far as it could go."

Of course, that doesn't by any means mean it was easy for Baranski to say goodbye to Diane Lockhart.

"It was 13 years. A lot of life happens to you in those 13 years," she said. "My daughter got married. I now have three grandsons. My husband passed away … You don't get that very often in show business. You usually jump from one job to another. So if you get a long run like this you’re unbelievably lucky."

Audra McDonald as Liz Reddick

Audra McDonald starred as Liz Reddick in a single episode of The Good Wife, and she jumped at the chance to reprise the role in The Good Fight—and it was largely due to one single scene that captivated her.

"I’d already watched some of that first season of The Good Fight and found it to be very powerful and unexpected. And I think they had me at Delroy Lindo's character saying to Christine Baranski's character—Adrian saying to Diane—'You'll be our diversity hire,'" she told TODAY. "I mean, they had me at that. When you hear that flipped on its side instead of being the other way around—the Black person saying that to the white person. I was like, 'I’m in.' I don’t know what this is gonna be!"

Andre Braugher as Ri'Chard Lane

Andre Braugher joins The Good Fight as the showy Ri'Chard Lane for Season 6.

Robert King said of the new character, "Andre Braugher has to be seen to be believed. He's a lawyer as a brand. He's a little bit egotistical. He really takes credit for what other people are doing, and yet he thinks the strength of what he can contribute to the law firm is the fact that he will put his name first. His drive can kick the ass of this law firm and turn it into something bigger. You're never sure whether you're supposed to be thrown by him, or think he's funny, or think he's disturbing, or think, 'Okay, that is the way the future is. It honors people who turn themselves into a brand.'"

Sarah Steele as Marissa Gold

We've seen Marissa Gold transition from being a P.I. to an attorney, and Sarah Steele has grown into her own as well. She told The New York Times she nabbed her dream apartment, a fifth-floor walkup in Brooklyn, New York, and that it helped her during tough times at work.

“A couple of months ago, there was a really, really long, hard day on The Good Fight, where I didn’t get home until like 3:00 in the morning or something," she recalled. "I put my bag down and starting sobbing with gratitude that I have this place."

John Slattery as Dr. Lyle Bettencourt

Mad Men alum John Slattery stars as Dr. Lyle Bettencourt this season, and his role is a trip—indeed, quite literally for Diane Lockhart.

"Diane is having issues this year. She feels like she's suffering from déjà vu, like constantly. And most of that is associated with politics. This was [written] before the leak regarding Roe vs. Wade, but that fits right into this sense that the things that Diane and the country thought were settled are coming back to be reopened," Robert King explained to Entertainment Weekly. "Because of that, she goes to a doctor and gets this new, ketamine-like treatment that uses a light hallucinogenic to allow people to review their lives and figure out a way to bring peace to their lives. John Slattery is this doctor who Diane becomes fascinated with. These treatments, not only are you kind of tripping, but afterwards it's a true therapy session. Michelle and I don't love therapy in general as a creative or dramatic device, but here it felt appropriate because you're also kind of tripping about your life."

Charmaine Bingwa as Carmen Moyo

Introduced in Season 5, Carmen Moyo (Charmaine Bingwa) has a penchant for challenging (read: really bad criminal) clients. Robert King promised we'll see more of her and her work in Season 6.

"You will find out more about Carmen. You'll find out more about her lover. You'll find out about her inability to create friendships that are lasting, and more importantly, why she works with people who are dangerous and often violent," he said. "Charmaine Bingwa is just this wonderful new actress who we think is doing gangbusters here."

Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni

Michael Boatman will reprise his role of Julius Cain—a Black Republican and onetime supporter of Donald Trump—for The Good Fight Season 6.

Though he was initially incredulous at his character's political leanings, Boatman said in an interview that he actually appreciated the challenge and thought the writers' room was fab.
