That’s a wrap on The Good Doctor.
After seven seasons, the ABC medical drama finished filming its series finale Friday — and emotions are running high. As the stars of the long-running procedural say goodbye, several cast members are sharing behind-the-scenes photos from their last hours on set.
“On the eve of our final day of filming, flooded with so many memories,” series star Christina Chang (aka Dr. Audrey Lim) wrote on Instagram Thursday, along with a photo from her first day on set in Season 1. “Thankful for The Good Cast + The Good Crew + The Good Fans 💙 7 years x 126 episodes, let’s finish strong 💪🏽💙.”
ABC announced in January that The Good Doctor would end after an abbreviated, 10-episode Season 7. Two months later, it was confirmed that former series regular Antonia Thomas would reprise her fan-favorite role as Dr. Claire Browne in not one, but two Season 7 episodes, including the series finale (airdate TBA).
“The Good Doctor has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye,” executive producers David Shore, Liz Friedman and Erin Gunn said in a previous statement. “We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of. We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve.
Added star/fellow EP Highmore: “Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life. I will always be grateful to David, Liz and Erin as well as the hugely talented — and lovely — cast, writers and crew who made this show possible. Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home.”
Then, channeling his inner Dr. Murphy, he concluded, “With love from Vancouver… tequila, stat!”

New episodes of The Good Doctor air Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC (and stream next day on Hulu).
I don’t get the ax falling on this one. Last season they had the most episodes for one season!!! The very next season it gets cancelled….??? The Resident was another one i didn’t get being cancelled. Both are/were quality shoes. & Grey’s keeps going & going & going & going. I get the ratings difference but the cast on Grey’s has GOT to be more expensive than the casts of the Resident & Good Doctor. I am LOVING the new cast additions to the Good Doctor this season!!
It may have to do also with the actors wanting to do other things workwise or spend more time with their families. The Good Doctor is the only network drama I watch but I’m glad they had time to prepare for a final season (even if it’s shorter).
I will really miss this show. i have fallen in love with Freddie as he reminds me of my grandson that actually has autism and he looks exactly like Freddie so this show holds a special place in my heart. I hope through this comment that I will be notified of Freddie’s next endeavor. i would love to follow him. He’s stolen my heart. He’s a wonderful actor…
If you haven’t seen Freddie’s awesome work in Bates Motel, I HIGHLY recommend it. Good Doctor will be missed.
Saddest day for real best dang show in all television 4 real
Most network shows sign their stars to six or seven year contracts, where the studios have options to keep the actors season to season if the show is renewed rather than a guarantee. Regular cast members who join after the shows start or who start out on a recurring basis usually have shorter contracts. Therefore, the networks and studios need to decide whether it is profitable or not to continue shows after six or seven seasons with the actors on new, more expensive contracts. It’s a no-brainer for very profitable shows like Grey’s, Big Bang Theory, SVU, and the OneChicago franchise, but a lot of shows are more difficult choices. My guess is that David Shore (the developer/executive producer), Sony (the producing studio where Shore is based), and Disney decided that The Good Doctor would have been too expensive to continue another season profitably.
There’s the answer. It’s made by Sony which means ABC has to buy the episodes whether most of the shows there are made “in house” by Disney owned studios like ABC studios or 20thcenturyFox.
You don’t understand the concept of ratings and costs? It’s no longer profitable, much like the Resident last year (which only got a shortened season for this very reason). It costs too much and doesn’t produce enough revenue through advertising and streaming deals and internation sales.
This was the only series I looked forward to watching every week. I absolutely loved all the actors and the story lines. I’m sad that it’s being canceled. Freddie stole my heart as a little boy in movies years ago. His acting as a doctor with autism was remarkable. Thank you for shedding a light on autism, and making people aware of things that autistic people can do. Thank you all!
You are posting the same as I feel too. So loved this show. So sad.
Breaks my heart to see you guys go. It always feels like you are part of our family. Good luck in whatever direction life takes you next. Love you all!
Love, love, love, this show.. Can’t believe it’s going off!!!!! Don’t understand if it’s sp popular why take it off? All the characters arre fabulous, even the new one that have came aboard. Freddie is the best he makes the show, but of course they all make the show! The writers are so awesome such terrific writers, their great. Everything is so real. I worked in surgery an everything seem so real. Please bring it back !!!! My favorite show on tv!! Love all of you guys, a great job to all of you for working so hard to make it so real. ❤️ J. V.S.
It isn’t popular anymore.
You were correct in that it isn’t profitable anymore unfortunately . But you are incorrect in saying it wasn’t popular anymore.
This show has been still gaining more viewers. 6th season the had more viewers then ever before. Then announced it was ending before there was even a chance to find out how many viewers the 7 the season would have.
That’s part of the reason people are thrown off, because it has its best season then ……
Enjoyed the show and hope to see Freddie Highmore again soon . As a retired RN and with autism in the family he was great
I will definitely miss this show. I looked forward to watching Shaun and the Bonaventure team every week. I hope to see the the actors and actresses in other shows. Glad Freddie showed autism cannot stop you from achieving your dreams.
Love the show, haven’t missed any shows. I will miss the the show.
Most enjoyable series ever, Freddie fantastic so real
This one makes me sad. I’ve watched from the beginning, and it’s one of the few shows I watch consistently. I’ll miss it.
I love the show, every single cast member. I have watched it from the start and will be sad to see it end.
One of, if not THE most, best shows on TV! I will greatly miss this! Fair winds to all! And thank you!

I have autistic grandson..dr Murphy warms my heart..will miss program very very much
I have never missed a single episode. I will truly miss this so.
I really wish this show wasn’t ending. I’ve one from day 1 and I’ll miss it so much. This is one of the best shows on tv right now, so sad to see it end.
I have only just started watching The Good Doctor online channel 4. I was interested in the Autism side of the story because my young grandson is autistic and I have recently acquired an Autism Certificate following a college course. Your TV Series The Good Doctor is magnificent. How you manage to get so many different stories is beyond belief. Every actor Involved and every writer and crew member deserve a pat on the back for such an excellent series. Dr Shaun Murphy is brilliant. I just wish Channel 4 were showing the series on Freeview channel 4 because everyone will get to see it and become aware of Autism which effects millions in so many different ways. Also reception on Channel 4 online is poor.
Have loved the show since season one. Great acting. Will definitely miss it.
I NEVER leave a comment, but this show hit home with me. I can’t believe it’s ending.best show on TV.
I guess I’ll stick with re-runs, or see re-runs of “House”
need a season 8 love this show will be missed farewell a bless all actors
Best show ever, except for the homo scenes, mute it.The Best to all, thank you Freddie, you are the best.
That was completely on called for.
This one hurts. I haven’t missed an episode and as someone who watches very little network tv, I’m really going to miss it. Freddie Highmore is an incredible actor and showed what someone on the spectrum can accomplish and that it can be their super power. I hope the show educated people on a lot of levels. I thank each and every person involved and wish them my very best for the future.❤
And it’s still a crime that he or David spader never one for best actor in a lead drama and again highmore is one of the few that moved from child to adult actor and has never had any problems
Just for the record, I think you mean James Spader. David Spade is the comedian…
Love this show and cast! Going to miss you guys❤️
I will truly miss one of the best shows on TV! Sending best wishes to everyone involved especially Freddy aka Dr. SHAWN MURPHY!♥️
