  Not just bad in the sense that its message is hateful, right-wing propaganda. It’s not even effective propaganda - poorly produced, full of inexplicable cuts and clips that make no sense. In the end, this so-called “Free Speech Apocalypse” is a barely concealed vehicle for publicizing right-wing evangelical pastor Doulas Wilson’s thoughts on everything, from gay marriage to the U.S. civil war to slavery (that last one is a real doozy, my God...)

  This document of Doug Wilson’s poorly received lecture comes from the same director of the superior Collision that I watched on YouTube last year. It is also the last of the documentaries (that are available on LB) that I will visit from Wilson’s streaming platform Canon+.

  The opening moments feature Doug getting into his truck with rock guitar playing on the soundtrack. It’s supposed to be cool and masculine. As he pulls out of the driveway we hear a sound bite from radio commentator Rush Limbaugh. That could go a long way in explaining my accusation of Doug’s favouring pandering for persuading. The truck will turn out to be an extended metaphor about taking out the trash threaded throughout clips…

  Biased as heck but very interesting. Bottom line is that people don't know how to disagree or have a conversation anymore. An opposite position gets you called names and subjected to hate. Pretty ironic.

  Once I had thought I had seen every single possible right-wing, homophobic piece of garbage propaganda that exists I find another. It's always a joy to find as I do get hungry on occasion to rip apart the hypocrisy of any film consisting of pure, bigoted confirmation bias, but I'm genuinely surprised the director chose THIS man to be his film's hero when a simple Google search shows this mans' beliefs and rhetoric aren't simply just your standard Evangelical talking points. I mean seriously, look at that poster and try to tell me this is REALLY about defending free speech when men like Douglas Wilson's belief IS to ban anything that didn't correlate with their views (don't believe me look…

  Editing is jumbled and a bit hard to follow it’s specific points, but Doug Wilson is clear and principled and not hard to listen to. He makes some good points about free speech, culture, diversity, etc. but the way that they documentary is organized makes it a bit unclear what the main thesis of it is, or what it’s trying to specifically document.

  Doane has so many irritating directorial tics, but Wilson is always worth watching. This isn't as good as Collision (because there's no Hitchens), but it's still got some bite to it. 4 and a half stars for when Wilson is speaking intelligently. 2 stars for Doane's editing and scoring choices.

  The debate on who is wrong and who is right is full on display, our central character Pastor Douglas Wilson who in actuality gives a compelling argument fif hud beliefs and centers mostly on a liberal colleges reaction to his lecture. He certainly doesn't come off hateful and his words are eye roll inducing most of the time however he articulates good responses under pressure whether from students or director himself- often making you go damn is that the correct version of history?
