Jimmy Edwards starred in this London Weekend Television series as the remarkable James Fossett, an ambitious writer of “Penny Dreadfuls” in the latter part of the Victorian era.
Abandoned music hall chanteuse Millie Goswick (June Whitfield) was enamoured of Fossett, whose friend and companion was a self-employed window cleaner, Herbert Quince (Sam Kydd), who willingly served him as an unpaid valet and biographer.
Fossett and Quince lived in the same house – Fossett in the attic and Quince in the basement – with landlady Mrs Macdervish.
The series debuted on Friday 10 January 1969 at 8.30 pm.
