It's hard to imagine a record like this ever coming out on a major label. Metal Box was already such a radical departure from anything resembling pop music and while the songs are shorter here they are only stranger in their sound.
Mostly they have no instruments besides a percussive loop, which barely sounds like 'drums' so much a various objects being hit or attacked. Lydon screams over these in his most neurotic, shaking register. The songs are like tribal ceremonies for goths. Even though ... read more
There is something about this that I enjoy yet I cant explain very well, its just so chaotic, I kinda love that about this.
