Day 3 August's Horror Scavenger Hunt. Watch an American remake of an Asian horror film.
I picked The Echo as I noticed it was made by the same director as it's original. I have not seen the original Sigaw.
Bobby has just got out of prison on parole and finds out his mother has died whilst he was inside. The circumstances around her death look like suicide. He stays in her apartment which looks rancid, where he discovers she was scared to death.
A ghost story inwhich a well built guy, who looks like he can handle himself gets haunted out his head. It has a lot of atmosphere, when his girlfriend gets attacked it brought thoughts of The Entity. They proper mess with his head, they want it to stop too.
I liked it, and have the original on my watchlist.
SCHOCKTOBER-31 HORRORFILME
2. The Echo
Manche Handlungsstränge laufen trotz kurzer Laufzeit komplett ins Nichts.
Vielleicht lohnt sich das philippinische Original mehr.
The Echo eerily reverberates the haunting cries of domestic abuse as an ex-con moves into an old apartment building where the ghostly noises through the walls plague his sanity, but Laranas’ Hollywood remake of his original Filipino supernatural horror is all too silent, relying heavily on ineffective jump scares and narrative dead-ends to elongate a noiseless nightmare - basically, it was boring…boring…boring…boring…!
‘The Grudge’ but way less memorable.
This appeared randomly on my tv and I decided to give it a go cause it was on my watchlist, and it felt intriguing but also poor executed, i guess the main explanation is about to have a helping hand in times of need and this guy (who was extremely hot) didn’t deserve the things the happened to him in this movie.
I like this in spite of the lame ending. The lead is good looking, a parolee just out of jail trying to live an honest life while people treat him poorly. The NYC setting is used well, from the streets to that ugly apartment building. A nice creepy atmosphere in parts, things appearing out of the corner of your eye, at least until they come right out and beat the shit out of you. Could have ended better, but I've seen far worse.
Pretty standard horror film. Not very scary, pretty slow moving, actors look bored, the twist is pretty standard....other than that the movie is ok. According to IMDB, this is a remake of a movie called Sigaw...you probably should track that one down rather than watching this one.
A slow burn all the way through although it was predictable from the start to where it was leading. The main charters played their part well but the story dragged and it had some creepy scenes but nothing rememberable to take away…..
barely, if anything happens during this movie and part of me is like it wasn't that bad. While the other part of me is like no, it really was that bad.
No. This film had barely any entertainment value and it wasn't even scary, creepy or any other descriptive word in that sense. I've never seen the Filipino version, but I would recommend watching that instead or at least watch it first. I've wanted to watch this film for some time, but I could tell by the poster that it may not be great, but for it to turn out this bad was surprising.
Jesse Bradford plays Bobby Reynolds who just got released from prison for voluntary manslaughter. He beat a man to death for attacking his girlfriend, Alyssa (Amelia Warner). Upon his release, Bobby moves back into his mother's apartment, but she passed away while he was inside. Almost immediately…
Not much here. The scares weren't scary and the plot was quite dull. No offense to Jesse Bradford, I think he's great but there wasn't much for him to work with here.
A Americanized remake of an earlier film by the same director, The Echo sees a parolee move into an apartment vacated by his mother, who died under mysterious circumstance. Fitting back into society after a sentence is hard enough, but even more so when ghosts are involved.
As ghost movies go, this is an okay entry, although I can't say it doesn't anything original with the concept other than the choice of victim. Typically in these films, are main character is a woman, but instead we get a young guy. It's sort of a nice change of pace, although I feel like the actor chosen more often acts confused than actual terrified, leading to an overall subdued movie.
Ghost movies are not usually my favorite genre, so a film has to knock it out of the park for me to strongly recommend it. This is a solid movie, but I wouldn't consider it a high priority viewing.
90 minutes of Jesse Bradford putting his ear to a wall. Feels like it was 3 hours.
