After we recently reminisced about ITV's soapy drama Footballers' Wives, we were reminded of another soccer-themed show featuring a fictional team and their respective WAGs – Sky 1's Dream Team.

The show followed the exploits of Harchester United in the West Midlands, running for TEN series between 1997 and 2007 – meaning it celebrates its 20th anniversary later this year. It introduced us to many future famous faces, and saw Harchester deal with the ups and downs of the football league, all while battling various own goals in their private lives.

Just like any drama of its ilk, storylines got rather ridiculous over time. What started off as a quaint show about a team dealing with things like relegation and qualifying for the Champions League, turned into a soap where there were a worrying number of deaths for a football club. In fact, it ended on a cliffhanger, with fans never knowing who survived an arson attack on the final game of the season.

But what happened to its huge list of cast members? We've tracked down most of its memorable characters to see what they're up to now:

1. Terry Kiely (Karl 'Fletch' Fletcher)

If you're going to pick the lead of the majority of Dream Team's ten seasons, you'd probably go for Fletch, Harchester's legendary striker, who played for the club in three different periods from 1986 to 1999.

Terry didn't ever follow up his gig on Dream Team with any further acting roles, and the show remains his most recent credit on IMDb. Though, in 2001, he played another footballer – Harpsey in Mike Bassett: England Manager.

It was reported in 2011 that panto star Gerard Kelly left his entire £145,000 estate to Terry in his will. Terry dated fellow Dream Team star Kara Tointon for 18 months before they split in 2006. Several years ago, he was working as a lifeguard at a swimming pool in Richmond, Surrey.

2. Alison King (Lynda Block)

Linda was a huge fan of the club, had various relationships with the players and loved getting caught up in a bit of murder-mystery fun.

After leaving the show after season 9, Alison became an even bigger soap star. Having had roles in Holby City and Doctors, she landed the role of Carla Connor in Coronation Street for several years before leaving in May 2016.

Fact: she keeps a photo of Sir Anthony Hopkins with her whenever she's performing. She once said: "I have an old black-and-white picture of him that I put up on my wall everywhere I work, otherwise I feel like I fail as an actor. I'd love to take him for a drink."

3. Charles Venn (Curtis Alexander)

Also known as Chucky Venice and Chucky Venn, Charles played powerful defender Curtis in the Sky show for a number of years.

After scoring small roles in Hollywood movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and The Dark Knight, he starred as Ray Dixon in EastEnders from 2012 to 2013. Two years later, he joined Casualty as Jacob Masters.

4. Ricky Whittle (Ryan Naysmith)

Skilled midfielder Ryan had plenty of drama, from hit and runs to "doing a John Terry" with his team mate's wife.

Ricky has become one of the show's biggest exports in recent years. Having appeared for several years in Hollyoaks as Calvin Valentine, and finishing second in the 2009 edition of Strictly, he has since carved himself a successful career in the States.

He was a series regular in both The 100 and Mistresses, and currently plays the lead character Shadow Moon in Amazon Prime's American Gods.

5. Kate Magowan (Helen Jensen)

Kate began her career in season 2 of Dream Team as Helen back in 1998. After a number of small roles, she began appearing in both high profile TV projects and movies.

In 2007, she played Princess Una in the movie Stardust, and in 2013 she joined the cast of EastEnders as beauty salon owner Sadie Young.

6. Amanda Abbington (Marilyn Harwood)

After roles in the likes of Doc Martin, Coupling, and Teachers, Amanda appeared in the underrated 2005 comedy sketch show Man Stroke Woman and the comedy series After You've Gone with Nicholas Lyndhurst.

In 2013, she began appearing in Mr Selfridge as Miss Mardle, and a year later joined her then-partner Martin Freeman in the third series of Sherlock as Mary Morstan, the wife of John Watson.

He then made a move to the States, and almost had a role in The Hobbit movies before having to leave for personal reasons. He later had parts in Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Warcraft. He also played a baddie in True Blood.

8. Kara Tointon (Gina Moliano)

Like many of her co-stars, she went on to have a leading role in EastEnders from 2005 to 2009 as Dawn Swann. A year later, she won Strictly Come Dancing.

She has continued to have starring roles in TV and film, including Mr Selfridge, The Sweeney, and ITV's Christmas live version of The Sound of Music as Maria von Trapp.

He has mostly concentrated on musical theatre work since then, and his long list of projects have included Les Misérables, West Side Story, South Pacific and many more. He originated the leading role of Walter Hartright in the West End production of The Woman in White in 2004. He did the same for the Australian premiere of Doctor Zhivago as Pasha/Strelnikov.
