David "The Rock" Nelson films himself scarfing "monster cookies" and "werewolf ice cream" and Frankenstein hot dogs and Invisible Man chickie nugs. He washes all these ghoulish entrees down with "blood soda." He then stands outside his Des Plains, Illinois house in middle of the night to film himself ranting about horror conventions, his favorite monster movies, and his own filmography.
About an hour in, The Rock segues into the actual Devil Ant feature presentation. What follows is an almost perverse fixation on chasing people with a rubber ant while they scream, "Oh no, The Devil Ant!" The Rock (the real one not that Dwayne Johnson impostor) proceeds to terrorize friends, family, gorehound tee wearing slobs, talent at horror cons…

A truly singular experience. For 3 and a half hours, my friend and I entered the labyrinth of Rock’s mind, occupied with creature features, eating on camera, whey powder with milk, and most importantly, himself. Detective Rock has numerous phone calls with a voice so reverbed it may as well be god, and god completely agrees with everything Rock says. The introduction to the DVD version of THE DEVIL ANT is 43 minutes long. 43 fucking minutes before the actual movie starts and even then its hard to tell. This movie ROCKS(Pun not intended)!!!! It has cheesy acting just cheese flooded this movie. This movie in my mind is split in 4 parts. One is Rock Talk/Ads and Trailers. Two is The Movie that has some sort of structure to the story. Then Three is just him walking around 2 conventions and hoping famous 60,70s,80s and 90s stars of low budget horror will play along with the devil Ant. Robin Chaney was kinda a jerk!!! Then 4 which is Trailers and behind the scenes. All crammed into 4 hours and 9 minutes of pure monstah movie action.
This took me 3 days to complete. It wore me out but I did it and I don't regret it. David sent me alot of photos and autographed everything and I was soooo happy to finally own this dvd and get to watch it!! But yeah I'm not regretting!!!
David “The Rock” Nelson’s (aka GOD) most well known film THE DEVIL ANT is one of the best and most fascinating films ever made. After a nearly 45 minute intro of David rambling and commenting on his rambling the film proper finally starts and it’s a berage of monster movie tropes, eating, awkward editing and vhs fuzz. David is obviously in on the joke and his movies are very very funny but there is a backyard, basement, neighborhood filmmaking aspect to his movies that make them so endearing and enjoyable. weird janky vhs editing, excessive consumption of junk food, a detective who repeats the same 2 lines of diologue, loud baseball announcer ahh narraration
around halfway through the movie the film almost completely forgets that it has a plot and just becomes david the rock nelson walking around different locations throwing an ant toy at random people
this movie says its 3 and a half hours long but in the intro it has around 40 minutes of “rock talk” and fake ads for frankenstein burgers and blood sodas, i wanted to see the movie but he just kept talking, taunting me almost with flashing text on the screen that was acting just as confused and baffled as me
the text at multiple points, and the rock himself kept telling me the movie was going to start when it wasn’t
but those sunset shots in the intro look beautiful asf
