M 🏳️‍⚧️This 1992 thriller follows a member of the IRA, who has a brief but meaningful encounter with a British soldier who is being held prisoner by the group, and later develops an unexpected romantic relationship with the soldier's girlfriend. A very original and though-provoking story that would end up getting the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, out of other 5 nominations. The suspenseful film keeps the audience involved and when its famous 'shocking' twist comes, it is deeply engaging to see the main character forced to decide between what he wants and what his nature dictates he must do. Stephen Rea's acting is flawless and his nominations are very well deserved. As controversial as the film may be for its time of release or because of its portrayal of a transgender character from today's perspective, it has undoubtedly become a relevant film that needs to be seen and respected for its subject matter.
