Lauren Coates Chicago Reader Though it pales in comparison to its parent films, The Continental maintains the classic John Wick house style and is sure to sate the appetites of franchise devotees. Sep 30, 2023 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) In this extra-grimy 1970s New York, a slew of new characters and their conflicts circle the Continental, including Mel Gibson as a boilerplate villain, but the fight scenes feel derivative and the emotional stakes negligible. Sep 28, 2023 Full Review Lyvie Scott Inverse As an exercise in worldbuilding, it doesn’t entirely land — but what The Continental lacks in substance, it does make up for with style. Sep 23, 2023 Full Review Aglaia Berlutti PopConCine The series insists on clumsily referencing the original universe. But it lacks solidity, visual identity and a good script to pull it off. Rob Van D It sucks so much. Imagine John Wick with worst characters, worst fighting scenes, worst story and way less money. Never been more disappointed in a show in my life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Grimm R The Continental is a great, 3-part series set in the John Wick world that stars Colin Woodell as Winston Scott and also stars Mel Gibson and Mishel Prada. I think where this series really thrives is in the world-building and story-development as this series adds some context into the character and backstory of Winston while also explaining how The Continental came into the ownership of Winston while also not adding anything major to the franchise. The action in this series is entertaining but lacks a thrill factor to keep me on the edge of my seat. I also feel like you can tell this series had a smaller production size than the movies and that this show did work with what was given to them. While watching this series I also felt like this series was more aimed towards fans of the John Wick series rather than a general audience to get invested into this series and then the broader franchise like the movies which I feel is a misstep. The story feels dense with the amount of world-building and I feel like the movies just pack a punch of adrenaline that this series lacks. I thought Mel Gibson as Cormac was a great antagonist and really delivered a great performance. Colin Woodell is also an actor that I've found myself enjoying seeing as he was in Unfriended: Dark Web and The Purge tv series as well. I do feel like he is an underrated actor that I've enjoyed seeing get these roles. Overall, The Continental is more so for the John Wick lovers than a general audience but that doesn't change how well developed the story is and how entertaining the action in this series is. B- Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Sunday Night Streaming o The Continental: From the World of John Wick Season 1 - 9.0 - This mini-series was an absolute masterpiece. And the soundtrack was absolutely banging. Right from the gripping opening scene with Frankie, I was hooked and that intrigue never let up. Having been a fan of Frankie's work in Animal Kingdom, I was thrilled to see him embody a similarly badass role here. From the get-go, I couldn't help but entertain a theory that John Wick might be the son of Frankie and Yen, though this tantalizing possibility was left unexplored. The action, as anticipated in any John Wick production, was nothing short of phenomenal. What truly sets this mini-series apart is how it delves into the intricate backstory of the John Wick universe, a world we're thrust into headfirst in the movies. They pull back the curtain on the Continental, giving us a deeper understanding of the individuals and forces that shape it. We get to witness Winston's rise to power, offering crucial insights into the character we've come to adore in John Wick. This development feeds into my theory that Winston harbors a special affection for John Wick, being that it would be his nephew in theory. Then there's Charon, and it's fascinating to see how he evolves into the character Lance Riddick (RIP) portrayed so brilliantly. Mel Gibson, in his trademark style, immerses himself in the role with absolute passion and perfection. For those who haven't experienced the movies, l'd highly recommend starting there before diving into the series. It enriches your knowledge of the intricacies at play. This ride was an absolute blast, though fair warning, it's blatantly intense in its violence-though in a thoroughly enjoyable way. I will tune in for anything John Wick, official sundaynightstreaming rating of 9.0 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Juanjo B No quede encantado, se me hizo muy de nicho y para fans. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review C C Love this show! Terrific cast, engrossing plot, true to the spirit of the John Wick movies and fills in the backstories of beloved characters.
