The Lanford Lunch Box may be going out of business soon — for good this time.
According to a new report by our sister site Deadline, The Conners Season 7 is in doubt. Production has already wrapped on Season 6’s strikes-shortened, 13-episode order, and cast negotiations — which are typically ironed out by this time each spring — have not yet begun.
Born from the ashes of 2018’s Roseanne revival, each season of The Conners requires that new, one-year deals be reached with legacy cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson. ABC and production company Tom Werner Entertainment are in talks to bring the sitcom back — likely for a seventh and final season — but there’s a very real chance that the spinoff will conclude with its upcoming Season 6 finale.
In the event that The Conners is cancelled, producers are prepared. A tag scene was reportedly filmed and will be added to the Season 6 finale if it turns out to be the series finale.
It was last spring when the producers behind the Roseanne spinoff floated the idea that the series might end with Season 6. “We feel that [next season] is possibly going to be the last season of The Conners,” EP Bruce Helford told TVLine at the time. “I would not [say that] definitively because the numbers were so good this season, and we’ve all had a really great time… but it’s definitely a possibility.”
One month later, leading man John Goodman added fuel to the fire when he suggested that The Conners was rounding the corner. “I think we may be coming to an end on it,” he said in June, before adding, “It’s lasted longer than I thought we would.”
But in a recent interview with TVLine, Helford and fellow EP Dave Caplan maintained that they had not been approached about bringing the veteran sitcom to a close.
“As far as going forward, it’s funny… When I made that comment [about the possibility of it being the final season], the response by ABC was, ‘We never agreed to that,'” Helford said in February.
Added Caplan: “When we feel like we’re not telling relatable, interesting, novel stories anymore, we’ll pull the plug.” For now, “the journeys that these characters are on are inspiring us to go places we haven’t. The show continues to feel fresh and interesting, so nobody is all that anxious for it to end.”
New episodes of The Conners Season 6 air Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC (and stream next day on Hulu). Beginning May 1, new episodes will air at 9:30 pm for the rest of the season, leading out of Jeopardy! Masters (at 8 pm) and Abbott Elementary (at 9 pm).
Are you ready to say goodbye to The Conners? Or are you hopeful that a deal can be reached to bring the show back for a seventh and final season? Sound off in Comments.
NOOOOOOOOOO KEEP THE CONNERS ON TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don’t go….
I would like John Goodman single again and reunited with old flame Vicki Lawrence as a new love interest. The show needs Vick’s spit fire personality. The chemistry is definitely there!
I very pleased with the show ! I would like to see more, longer episodes, more episodes, unless some one dies keep it coming,
Brian
I hope they bring this back. Still a really fun half hour comedy!
I thought ABC said this was the last season.
ABC never did. The producers and cast have made statements about it ending. Re-read the above article where it says exactly who said what.
One more full sized season please ABC! Give The Conners a proper chance for a long finale. It’s still 1 of your top rated shows.
Its cost may be prohibitive. Such an expensive show, and there may not be a river of syndication money to keep it afloat.
Streaming has killed syndication.

Get rid of gilbert and beg Roseanne to come back…the conners cast are has beens and frankly never was…they all still hang on the skirt of Roseanne…gilbert is not an actress by any account… guarantee she couldn’t get an acting gig… if it wasn’t for Roseanne she wouldn’t have had this gig…she isn’t comfortable in her own skin and I don’t want that negativity in my home …cancel the show… seriously…cancel it….
Why not just. not. watch.?
Yes, AGREE
Conners deserves one more season for a proper send off.
Cancel it. Should have ended years ago
I don’t understand how it’s still on the air. Should have left the original Roseanne alone.
Exactly. It lost all relevance after they axed Roseanne. And it was up in the Top 3 when Roseanne was still on the show.
They’ve been doing just fine without her.
Get over it already.
I agree I wish it had just been left alone although I would have been okay with one tv movie including Roseanne to fix the horrible last season of the original.
The Connors is not nearly as funny, the changes done to the characters and their romantic relationships are horrible, and the new characters are a waste of screen time.
Please do not cancel. It’s a funny show especially compared to some of the other shows on TV. It’s real life only funny.
There is still enough material for them to cover creatively that another season is warranted, and it would be nice for them to have an entire season to build up to whatever they feel the proper sendoff would be. Plus, we still have some old characters to bring back, and there would always be the return of Bev, for one more appearance!
They should renew it for at least 4 more seasons.
Oh please D O N T renew this show!!!
Definitely want the show around for as long as we can have it. Sure now, somethings aren’t like years ago. But the show is a staple in a lot of households. I know my Husband & I always look forward to new episodes. We love The Conner’s. But if it does come to an end then maybe do an hour or 2 finale. (Just gave myself tear thinking about that.)
I’m pro season 7. I’d like a wrap up more meaningful than an afterthought tag.
Hoping for another year. Still love the show.
this almost the same thing reported the last two years? (on the bubble, if renewed will be final season) i bet they also shot some type of tag just in case the last 2 years. the only real difference is with the conners on netflix and cw and in syndication in the fall, werner entertainment is making bucks and that is probably the hiccup. sometimes the network wants in on that money, if they dont own the show, to get a renewal.
I hope not.
I used to like it. But got tired of it. Haven’t bothered to watch this season. The show feels off and tired. It can go wouldn’t miss it.
I enjoy The Conners so much, and like the stellar cast and their performance. The show deserves a lot more to end on than a tag line.
Uh… published too soon… it hasnt aired yet and you’re already spoiling it for us. WOW!
Not sure if you’re trolling or not, but if you’re being serious…Nothing was spoiled. so there’s no need to be dramatic about the article.
Keep the show the Connors going at least for one more season.great characters and a great show.please keep the show going
It’s my favorite show. It is so relatable to every day life of the average Joe Blow. Keep it going!
The really did win the lottery, and the last six seasons were all a dream.
I want a 7th and final season!
I love the Conner’s and all the characters. I’ve watched from day one when it was Roseanne. Have to say I don’t miss her at all. I think the Conners is much better in the stories that they tell and how they tell them. I hope they will go beyond this season for many more!!!!!
PLEASE do not end ! There are many more stories left in those characters.
WTF! Why should a ratings WINNER lose their time slot to JEOPARDY AND BE PUSHED TO 9:30 BEHIND STUPID ABBOTT? ABBOTT is not a ratings winner and it’s not going to be one ABC needs to think about this!
Take a deep breath Dana. Everything will be ok! If the show does end, life will still go on.
No. There is more episodes needed for closure on certain topics
Just end it like last time and have Rosanne tie everything up in the basement writing the followup to her previous best seller.
Plz dont. I was sad and upset, when Roseanne was not going to be on the show. I really thought this wasn’t going to work out. But it did. And I love you all. We have to keep going. John Goodman,
