Which Champs do you NOT want in PoC?

Discussion

Quick disclaimer, ideally all champs will eventually be in PoC, and of course everyone will have different takes on this depending on what kind of playstyle you prefer. However, some champs, like Victor or Zoe, are definitely higher on the list to be added than others.

This thought popped in my head when I was thinking about champs that just... don't fit. The first one that came to mind was Soraka. Maybe it's my inexperience with PvP showing, but what would her wincon be aside from the alt wincon landmark for healing? I'm sure they could make something work for her, I'm not a game designer for a reason, but it got me thinking who else would make a less than desirable PoC champ.

None. I see it as a challenge, people say all these characters here are boring? Powers and items and relics are great ways to mix things up and make these characters work. Maybe soraka can do damage proportional to the healing. Maybe fiora can have some new power for which you need to do somehing to be able to guarantee kills but not be able to do nexus damage as well. I think its on the devs to take up the task to make the characters work even though they might seem like they can't on paper. Thats why I am most excited for a lot of the champions listed here.

u/Derpinic avatar

Agreed, I'm sure they can make every champion fun in their own way. Heck, thus far with the 30ish champions I've gotten to two stars, I've enjoyed basically all of them, and the few I haven't I think I just need some better relics for (or to level them up more).

I was just curious as to which champs people would have near the bottom of their theoretical "please add to PoC" list

100% agree

Everytime someone said "oh no please dont add expensive champs because they are gonna be bad for sure"

I knoe they will try their best as devs to not make them bad, so im eager to see how they make them, specially after big hits such as voli and eddie

Same with wincon champs, since we already have really broken stuff, im interested on how they would make them

(Tho fiora is definirly the most anoying one of this cases

Soraka is my #1 support champion, I just love her kit. In a way Yuumi has no wincon, she just buffs the rest of her kit. But she's in the game, so get me my starchild please ❤️

u/reubencovington avatar

Fiora is very unlikely to be fun as a core champ in my mind. She's fun as the occasional support champ, but the consistency she could have if added as a core champ would be miserable.

I'm not sure how consistent she would actually be with higher level adventures that often have encounters with almost exclusively very over-statted units.

u/coolmcbooty avatar

Yea it won’t be consistent but it can swing to either extremes as useless or OP depending on what her stars and champion level powers are. She can end those hard nodes with high nexus health by just aiming for the weak followers. Her challenge ability plus barrier plus powers/relics. Even common ones like quick attack or regeneration. prob still needs luck tho like everyone else

u/dudemcbob avatar

I don't see this as a problem. Plenty of champs (ASol, Diana, Jinx, Leblanc, Nidalee) can already win any node with no effort. No one complains about them.

But as soon as you win easily with an alternate wincon, people lose their minds and call it bad. Smh

u/coolmcbooty avatar

Yea fiora would add some different type of wins. Makes it more interesting

Let's be real with ourself here, at this point getting stats on champs in PoC, especially at higher levels, is already consistent and easy enough that over-statted units aren't exactly a challenge anymore. And if Fiora were to be added, you can be damn sure people are willing to run 2 copies of The Bounty Hunter's Renown (+1/+1 for each 200G) and Heart of Gold (+50% gold earn) on her just to make her BEEG. The only problem I can see with Fiora as a PoC champ are frostbite and stun nodes that specifically hit the strongest unit.

I don't think nodes countering a specific champion is necessarily a bad thing. It incentivises a more well rounded roster.

u/ccccczy avatar

I don’t think that’s the case. 4mana Fiora and 4 strikes require at least 5 to 6 turns, and power level right now usually defines the game in less than that time.

u/ContaneShoko avatar

Are you ignoring the fact that cost-reduction items and a nifty relic that let your champs strike on summon exist? Unless you're facing against high stats enemies specifically where you might wanna put stat-boosting relics on her, a Stalker's Blade (Strike the weakest enemy on summon) and Crownguard Inheritence (Rally upon level up, which is super easy to do with Fiora only needing to kill 2) pretty much guarantee you can easily fulfill her wincon in 1-2 turns.

She would definitely be super OP, but Asol is already super OP, and just as Asol, sounds fun to play when you just feel like stomping for a bit

yeah thats a good point, i could see fiore being released as a monthly reward champion

u/reubencovington avatar

The issue in my mind that separates Fiora vs Asol is that due to invoke and the random champs via gauntlets, the way you win each game is often very different even if your stomping.

Meanwhile Fiora will win the same way in a huge amount of her matches in a way that the AI really struggles to account for.

I can see getting tired of her if you’re just hard grinding exp or something as unless she had really transformative powers you’d win basically the same way every single game, but I don’t think it’s a compelling argument to not add her. My take is the game is just better with as many choices of champs as possible. Some will be duds for some people (including myself), but I’d never turn down the option of picking another champ.

there are plenty of hard counters to fiora, frostbite, stuns, killing her. i don’t really care if a poc character is overtuned, it’s pve, challenge is good but still who cares if the character is still really strong, ideally every character would be a bit overtuned imo

That might be true but she's hella fine

I don't want anybody but a third and maybe 4th lux

Katarina, unless her star powers somehow nerf her.

Two Scourge's Stash and she always wins turn 1.

But then why would you upgrade her star powers? I think she should get restrictions that her star powers lift some of them. or she needs to be in the Asol category.

Yeah, that makes more sense.

I think a way to balance her would be to make her like equipment - can only be played once per round.

Or change her recall/rally to only work once per round.

Even if they made Scourge's not stackable you could still just run Packed Powder.

I think the only way it would work is if we get a PoC-only version of Katarina that works slightly different. Unless of course they want her to be the undisputably strongest and most uninteractive champion in the game.

I think Katarina will get the Asol treatment rather than a nerf.

The Liss soft cap might work as well. Just increase her cost by X everytime she is played. But another issue I still see is that she could abuse on play effects easily - the main reason they changed Galeforce. I'm really courious how they tackle those once we get some low cost recall based main champions

Katsrina was confirmed on a stream to be the last champ to be added to the game

More replies

Maybe Ryze? I mean yeah currently he's a support champ but as a main champ, not sure how he can be fun to play.

Jayce. His theme is about 6+ mana spells, and we already have Lux 1.0 for that

Honestly I kind of enjoyed Jayce in PoC 1.0, so I wouldn't dismiss him too fast

u/Derpinic avatar

It just sucks how he doesn't work with spells having their base cost lowered below 6. Though a star power changing that to "base cost 6+" could make him a bit more interesting. Still, it's a niche Lux and other spell slinger champs fulfill.

I really hope at some point they change it to base cost. I like him but avoiding mana reduction feels bad, and there's so much of it that you'll often end up getting some without even trying.

Soraka is one of the top 3 champs I want in Path

Fiora and Maokai would not work very well since they posses built-in win-cons that could be easily achieved in PoC

u/squabblez avatar
Edited

Similarly Ryze goes against the very nature of PoC. His deck is best when as little as possible and would get progressively weaker as you're forced to add more and more cards to your deck

This goes for Nautilus too, the more you build his deck the worse he gets.

If forced to implement deep, I'll maye change the condition of it, like saying you're deep if you've tossed X number of cards.

This could also be the same for Enlightened

u/Mantergeistmann avatar

I'd prefer if they did it like Darius: made it a percentage of your game start deck for deep.

more reply More replies

This creates entirely different issues because it massively limits deck synergy, so you’ll need to make sure the powers of such champs aid with tossing.

I got Maokai as a champ for Asol of Guardian Trinket one time while I was leveling Asol and only had 1 star. It was a fun, one off experience, milling every encounters deck, but I could see it getting a bit boring if he was in PoC as a main champ.

It would be more fun getting him added to a deck since the deck isn’t particularly built around him. If he had a whole deck he’d get much easier and less fun.

Some for sure will be hard to implement and design, but overall:

And i agree basically with everything that Bored_homan said in this topic. This post if for flavor, because it reminded me of the song, and its awesome one. ;P

as a Soraka main, that second part offends me. you could have her power be "when i heal, deal 1 damage to the strongest enemy unite and their nexus" or something like that. turning heals into damage is one of my favorite ideas in games.

Katarina you just give her double discount (-4 cost, 2 rare slots) and you have an infinite turn 1. seems really op and I don't think she can be balanced in any way

Yeah, she’s good as support champ and trying to break her mid game, but as a main champ you could bring relics to reliably break her and that would suck.

Plus since her support identity is around creating an infinite her star powers would be tricky. Either they would help her win con and be broken, ie recalled cards cost 1 less, or they would be unrelated to her wincon, ie grant recalled units impact.

Tho if you create a new card for her this all goes away. Could create something similar to Irelia or Ahri where she moves around the field.

Ahri

How dare you 😭

Ahri was a champ you could play in PoC 1.0 which was like over 2 years ago, her Star Powers were recalling weakest for 1 star and strongest for 3 stars, if she was in nowadays PoC.

Chogath would probably feel very similar to tahm kench

OP means champions that are in LoR we don't even know which mechanics they might give him if/when released...

Any champ can work with a good power set - Nilah on her own with her specific champ ability is terrible. Nilah with her star powers is insanely powerful.

u/Megatrans69 avatar

I'd love soraka personally. Give me a 1 star power that summons starspring. Also she's just super fun in general I've been wanting her back in standard for ages. Especially since Vlad is back

Fiora and Ryze. Unbalancable, both of them

Im greedy, I want them all. However, Olaf seems kinda boring.

Deep deck please 🙏

u/gamer123098 avatar

I don't want to see new versions of champs before we finish getting a first versions of the others.

u/sashalafleur avatar

i want every champion in poc. the more the more variety and fun.

If I had to pick one, I would say Ryze.

Every reward would actively make the deck worse, and honestly, how would he even be designed for PoC?

Healing and health gain from targon(to units and the players) is one of the strongest things for me in PoC. I'd think most of sorakas units would be high health low attack, and after 4 heals, she fully heals the supported ally, that's achievable super fast. The formidable power relic might be super strong on her.

Lux 2.0

How does lux 2.0 being added make your experience worst?

Too bad, she already is planned for next week

I am aware.

Nautilus, this guy is boring

The issue with Nautilus is that functionally speaking, a Deep deck would get progressively weaker as a adventure continues rather than stronger since your deck just gets bigger and there's not a consistent way to keep your deck thin.

Well you could give him a scaling star power to work with that something like round start for every 4 cards in your starting deck toss 1 once you're deep do something else instead

Yes but star powers can remedy that

If thats the case, the player will have to hunt nodes that cut cards which is antisynergistic with the adventure mode since getting more cards is a soft nerf in the game.

It wont work against Lissandra since these kinds of nodes in there is a bit rare.

Isn't mind meld at the same place always?

Orianna, support system with a metal ball? Thank you but not

u/Dry_Cardiologist6758 avatar

I'll give you a 100% honest answer. More repeat variants like lux. Other than that I think bram would be too similar to poro king. I think that avinia would need some work but I think trundle and tydamyr would be more fun now because of titantic support! Fiora would be too broken. Karma would too but both would still be fun besides Asol is already broken so there is that.

u/Prophylaxis_3301 avatar

Lux 2.0. But that is impossible, lol

I don’t get it do people not like the new lux?

u/Dry_Cardiologist6758 avatar

No because people prefer completely new champs as to a remake of one that doesn't need it. The current lux is much better and more fun. New one is just a aggro buffer. We already have many of those.

Ah gotcha

Just like Sunny said, anything from that damned Pink region

Fiddlesticks. I just don't want that chimpion at all even though it seems to be a fan favourite

u/Thin_Swordfish_6691 avatar

He isn't even in the game yet

Yes, I know. It should stay that way.

u/Thin_Swordfish_6691 avatar

Why

He probably gets dunked on by fiddle in league too often, there’s no other real reason. Buy wards bro
