      Critics Consensus

Anna Sophia Robb is charming as the lead in The Carrie Diaries, even if this Sex and the City spinoff sometimes suffers from overwrought narration and so-so writing.

Emma G. Keller Guardian Stories about the modern females coming of age are all about the writing. More than anything, The Carrie Diaries lacks good, snappy, plausible dialogue. That's fixable, and it needs to be done stat. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club This is a sensitive, compassionate, surprisingly sweet show about growing up in the wake of a giant loss and about kids who have dreams too big for them to handle just yet. Rated: B Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Tim Stack Entertainment Weekly It definitely is a little jarring at first because it's not SATC. It's not Gossip Girl. It's more like Sixteen Candles without all the broad comedy. But that totally worked for me and AnnaSophia Robb was really adorable. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Rachel Wagner Hallmarkies Podcast The entire cast has great chemistry. Not sure who the audience is but a well made and acted show Jul 14, 2023 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media The Carrie Diaries pilot is sneakily good, giving us a completely different and unformed version of Carrie Bradshaw. Rated: B+ Feb 20, 2020 Full Review Catriona Wightman Digital Spy As someone who's been completely won over by this cast and series - despite its (several) faults - I'm really hoping that The CW pulls a surprise and lets us into Carrie's life for a little longer.
