Dennis Harvey Variety This is a lively bullet-riddled adventure that may not stick in the mind, but will leave no one bored for its 110 minutes. Jan 10, 2024 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation It’s not “The Beekeeper,” but Eckhart commits to the part and he and the fights in it are some compensation for a pretty silly plot and clumsy “Will this never end?” story structure. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 16, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider ... A lame-ass thing that’s serious when it should be campy, and rife with brutal violence and incredible nonsense. Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine The Bricklayer may not stand out from similar action films on the market, but it offers enough entertainment for those wanting to enjoy a popcorn movie experience. Rated: 6/10 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Kevin Wight The Wee Review Completely lacks a sense of fun and wallows in old tropes that should have been left in the past Rated: 1 Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Matt Glasby Radio Times Despite risible dialogue and some slapdash production elements, there's fun to be had for those in the right mood. Bryan B Half James Bond and half John Wick and 10% as good as either. After watching I can't tell you why the good or bad guys did anything in the plot or what the main characters names were. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Kim T I was entertained by this movie what more can you ask. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Marc Z This decent, but not great movie, is a good warm up to Eckhart in a follow up Jesse V. John son Film, Chief of Station. Eckhart is surprisingly good as a bitter, undercover operative, trying to capture and kill a rogue CIA agent blackmailing the Agency and killing reporters. Nina Dobrev is beautiful, but not great in this. Part of it is not her fault-she has some very silly lines throughout as the desk officer who is sent out to the field. Rent Harlan's Direction is the heart of the problem, particularly in the fight choreography. He uses a lot of techniques to cover up lack of fighting skills of the players. The budget is low but the film is medium. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Autumn L Hire better writers. I love Nina Dobrev so I was excited to see her in this. She's not the problem, though. In fact, the two leads did a decent job with what they had. The writing, dialogue and direction are absolutely abysmal. I don't know if this is a result of the writer's strike or the underlying book it was based on wasn't that good, but wow, this was hard to watch in some spots and laughable in others. Nina deserves better. One thing I did appreciate is there was no romantic relationship implied between Kate and Vail. He keeps her firmly in the "kid" territory where she belongs and she keeps him in the "okay, grandpa" place he belongs. So, kudos for that. This really had potential but was absolutely murdered by terrible writing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Susan H Formulaic. I’m confident in saying this movie is called the Bricklayer just to have someone die by trowel. I wasn’t able to watch the whole thing because I just didn’t care how it ended. Aaron Eckhart could do better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review SkyRo P The movie "Bricklayer" turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me. It was filled with unexpected action and moments that left me wondering what just happened. Unlike many predictable films, this one kept me on the edge of my seat with its numerous surprising twists for the main character. The supporting cast delivered excellent performances, and the overall acting was top-notch. The plot and storyline were captivating, despite my initial hesitation to see it in theaters. The movie seemed to have been undersold by the marketing team, as it didn't receive the attention it deserved. It was almost as if it was quietly released, without much fanfare. If only I had known earlier, I would have definitely watched it on the big screen. The marketing team truly missed the mark on promoting this enjoyable and action-packed film.
