The Bad Always Die Twice (Nikki Harper Mystery) Edición Kindle
For Nikki Harper, realtor to the stars and daughter of 1950s screen goddess Victoria Bordeaux, Hollywood is home—an albeit dysfunctional home populated by a cast of crazies. While Nikki’s no stranger to scandal, she’s shocked to receive a hysterical phone call from her business partner, Jessica Martin, saying that seventies sitcom star Rex March has been found dead in Jessica’s bed. More shocking is the fact that, as far as anyone knew, Rex was already dead . . .
Six months ago, Rex was supposedly killed when his plane crashed in the Mojave Desert. Nikki and Jessica recently sold his mansion on behalf of his widow, Edith. Obviously, Jessica is being framed, but by whom? And why? And how can Rex be dead again?
“Cheryl Crane has written a superb mystery: rich in milieu, deep in plot twists, constant in the exercise of suspense and surprise. This book is a veritable primer on why people read and love crime fiction.” —James Ellroy, New York Times–bestselling author
“There’s a good plot with a twist and some very clever Hollywood insider bits.” —The Globe and Mail
“Plot twists keep the pages turning.” —Booklist

You will learn so much about what a high-end LA realtor’s life is life. I honestly had no idea but Crane plunges the reader into the excitement of the chase for the right client for the right property.
I understand that Crane has also worked in the real estate industry. There are two factors which prevent total identification between the real life and fictional characters. Unlike Lana Turner, Victoria Bordeaux’s career seems to have begun circa 1960—so she is a star of ther generation of, say, Jane Fonda or Raquel Welch perhaps. And instead of having a 70ish daughter like Cheryl Crane, Nikki seems to be in her 30s perhaps.
I presume Crane is playing it like that because it would be fairly difficult to believe that a 95 year old woman, even a screen legend, could get up to the shenanigans Victoria Bordeaux keeps up, even to the youthful beauty.
And it leaves Nikki in a state of youth, and involved in a difficult romantic relationship with a man who has children. Yes, Nikki is straight and for once, that works. Victoria has been married nine times—to seven husbands. The case they get tangled up in is the second death of Artemis Rex Beach, found dead shortly after his return from his first death from a plane crash in hideously cold and unsearchable Alaska. Nikki and her realty partner, the jaunty, vivacious Jessica, have been representing Edith Beach, Rex’ widow, in trying to sell her mansion. She is fifty and rather frumpy, lacking the perfect Hollywood bikini body of all of her friends, and yet she has attracted the attention of young Thompson Christopher. The enigma of the Edith=Thompson relationship is the central mystery of the book, and I’m sure that my true crime friends will quickly figure out that Cheryl Crane, as adroit a plotter as Jeffrey Deaver, knows that the original “Edith Thompson” was convicted of murder in a famous boy-toy case of the early 20th century, in England.
Every page has both a wry comment by Nikki, and a verbal snapshot of Hollywood as it is lived now, as well as some practical advice should I ever decide to become a real estate broker in the glamorous enclaves of Beverly Hills. They are ladies of the Canyon.
the author did a great job with her descriptions of the clothes, the sets, and the people without going overboard with the details.
She also did a great job with portraying the mother - daughter relationship and making me care about both of them. And she surprised me with the ending. I had a glimmer once early on in the book as to who the true murderer was then she oh so skilfully pointed me in multiple other directions and I lost it. Then she told me again abd I failed to pick up on it with the subtle hint.
I felt compelled to get online and write this review as soon as I finished reading it because I adored the book.
it's got its share of crime, there's no sugar coating it but I was never over whelmed with gory details and violent scenes.
just a lovely mystery with a nice heroine surrounded by genuine loved ones.
I'll buy the rest of the books in the series and savor each one, like finding a Hershey kiss hidden in the couch when you thought you were completely out of chocolate. This book is like that.
I found out about her book by accident as I looked into Yahoo for an update on Cheryl Crane. Immdediately, I purchased the book on online.
I am looking forward to Cheryl's second book as she is working on now.
I had a hard time putting it down.
I can't wait for her next one that comes out at the end of Aug.
The one that turns out to be the killer was at the top of my list of suspects.
Ms Crane did a awesome job writing the book.
I read the Kindle version.

The heroines mother is a thinly disguised Lana Turner who was the authors real mother and is in this book as though still living.
A really easy enjoyable read.
