George Clooney spotted filming new movie ‘The Tender Bar’ in Lowell

George Clooney continues to use Massachusetts as the backdrop for his latest film “The Tender Bar.”

It appears Clooney had a busy Friday last week as the award-winning actor and director filmed a scene for his new movie in Watertown and was later spotted filming in Lowell as well, the Lowell Sun reports.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Clooney’s latest film is a movie adaptation of J.R. Moehringer’s memoir, which recalls the writer’s life growing up on Long Island and searching for a father figure among patrons of his uncle’s bar.

In addition to Watertown, Clooney and his crew visited Lowell’s Belvedere neighborhood Friday to film a scene on Parkview Avenue.

Lowell resident Peter Aucella told the Sun he and his wife Rosemary live across the street from where filming took place on Parkview Ave. The couple had the opportunity to meet and chat with Clooney on Friday.

The Aucellas stepped outside with their dog Friday to watch Clooney and crew film when the popular actor approached them, greeting their dog, according to The Sun.

“He said, ‘Who do we have here?’ and he came over and pet our dog,” Aucella told The Sun.

The actor took out his phone to show the couple photos of his dog, Rosie, a St. Bernard, The Sun reports.

According to the paper, several vintage cars were brought in on Friday for the filming of the scene.

“They did one take of a car driving down the street, and then they immediately moved on and did four takes of five or six family members getting out of the car, taking their suitcases out of the trunk and walking into the house, as the lead character — played by Tye Sheridan — came out of the house and made his way down the driveway with the trash can,” Aucella told the paper.

American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe, Tye Sheridan, who was on set in Lowell Friday, and Ben Affleck are among those expected to star in the Amazon Studio film, according to The Reporter.

The movie’s script was written by Dorchester native William Monahan, who won an Oscar for “The Departed.”
